I am planning to install lead in a valley on my roof.
The valley is between 2 roofs and has a slight slope
Is it true that the lead must be laid in sections not longer than 1.5 metres.?

It would be much easier to roll it out in one piece.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Easier in one piece yes however, if we get a summer the guarantee I can give you is you will have to replace it again next year.

Is the valley running (almost flat) or sloped ?

What code lead do you propose to use ?

How wide is the valley ?

    New or replacement ?

Slate or tiles each side ?

    Valley almost flat,
This is a new build so I can create the fall
    about 90mm over 7 mtrs.

It seems that I will need to lay it in sections
I plan to lay in in stepped sections of 30 mm

the valley in 14 mtrs long and the fall will be to each end

Code 4 or 5 not sure , will check for correct lead for valley

    Valley is wide 500 mm
would it be ok to lay it in 3 sections of 2.3 Mtrs each

    Slates each side

    Hi,

Steps are not high enough at 30mm, minimum 50mm needed.

500mm at the base or including the upstands ?

The valley will get wider at each step.

My advice is change spec to copper or you are wasting your money, I'm not saying it can't be done but the amount of detail needed requires a professional.

Hi thanks Pete Heat for your reply,

Yes, the valley is tapered with 340 at end and around 540 at highest point
These measurements are only for the base and do not include the 150- 200 mm upstands

I would have a preference for lead because it is easier to install

    Hi,

While lead is easier to dress it's not always the easiest to install especially when you go code 5 or above.

My preferance is the product that will last, oversized lead panels split very easy in the hot weather, I have seen them needing replacement in less than a year.
