The blades are intended for rough work and bend back so that no damage is done to the shaft of the engine.
works well on commercial lawnmowers and mowers with a small deck width.
not as good with a large deck where airflow isn't ducted so well.

Some manufacturers fit a centrifugal fan above the blade to provide lift. It might be blocked.

Best advice i can give is go to youtube a nd search govenor spring adjustment to increase rpm... Its a simple fix.. You can set rpm by ear unless one is tone deaf!... If it sounds down on rpm then most likley it is. ..if you gave a tach to read rpm then go ahead and adjust rpm to 2,950

Rover have a similar setup and it seems to work well on those machines.

if that's the briggs 675 engine sometimes a bush or other obstacle can hit the governor spring at the front and you need to push it back with your finger

My deck on my ride-on is falling apart and in need of replacement, but i've been informed that its a discontinued model and replacement decks are not available anymore...so is there anyway of fixing up an old deck? riveting, welding ??
    Discodog wrote: »
No reason why not. Take it off, remove all the rusted metal & cut back to solid metal. Then cut & fit replacement section. A steel fabricator could do it. The only real problem is if the shaft bearings aren't solid

    how about fibreglass ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 598 ✭✭✭Needles73

Don't use fibreglass on a lawn mower....not a good idea.

    too much vibration??

The deck should be able to contain the blade if it becomes detached. How much is missing & where on the deck. A couple of pics might help.

That's beyond repair as there isn't enough good metal to key on to. Plus the holes are just too big to retain structural integrity. It would be a better guide if you lay your machine on it's side, carburettor up & take some photos of the deck.

I can only shudder at the thought that anyone would think that was repairable?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

well my local fabricator said you could use fibreglass layers, and it could last another season

If the engine is any good then I'd be looking for a decent deck shell from a scraped mower.

I agree. I would contact mower repairers. Most have a load of old machines out back. Also put up some wanted ads online.

But be aware to check the chassis first.

Looking into getting a new ride on mower for my 3/4 arce lawn. I've done some research into some models my local dealers have and this is the options available to me. I'm looking for some advice from someone a bit more in the know about these things.

    Castle garden

    84cm cut
    240litre bag
    Mulching kit and trailer hitch
    €2350

    Xdc170hd
    500cc
    98cm cut
    240 litre
    Mulching kit and trailer hitch
    €2750

    Husqvarna
    Tc 158
    97cm cut
    220 litre
    €2800

Which of these is the best bang for your buck thanks

Don't waste your time with the mulching kit, total waste of time in Ireland unless you plan to cut the grass twice a week.
