    Hickster,

You can apply here, scroll down to the bottom and register:

    http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/ireland-irlande/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?lang=eng

    You will need:

    1) Garda letter. Someone can get this for you at home easily enough and post it to you as you need the original, a scanned copy won't do.

    2) Proof of funds. You need a letter from your bank stating you have at least $3k Canadian. Or you can get a friend or someone from home to sign on your behalf saying they will support you. Download the form and bring it to the bank.

Wait time for visas as of today is estimated at 6 weeks but have heard of longer so get cracking.

That's all you need really if you want to know anything else just ask

Dundarave and Ambleside are great beaches. Spent many an hour or four on them.
Ahh don't get me wrong the beaches there are fine, just that imo there's better craic at the others and alot of stuff nearby like pubs and beergardens etc.

Not going to activate my visa for as long as possible, so hopefully they'll just let me go in on a tourist visa

    Hey All,
So I have the visa got, and planning on moving to Vancouver in January.
Will only be debt free, next month, so then begins the saving to have some few quid in January!
I don't know anybody there, and won't have a job lined up in advance, nor a place to live, so i guess it's gonna be a bit daunting!
Can anyone advise how much money I will need realistically, based on the above?
Anyone else travelling there, or already travelled who are/were in the same boat?

It really depends on how long it takes you to get settled. Some get sorted in a few weeks with jobs and an apartment but others struggle for a few months. Just get socialisng with people in hostels as soon as possible and you should get some leads.

I'd say the average is about 3grand, even if you do get sorted quickly there are so many expenses to consider. I spent a lot more then that but was happy to arse about for a few months.

    Just on this

They let me through without activating my work permit, but I had to show them evidence of a return flight, and also show the guy how much I had in the bank

So they aren't too keen on the idea I don't think

I moved to Vancouver in January with 5000 euro. I wasn't long going through it. It was costing me over 1000 dollars a month just to exist in Vancouver.

    Hey,

Check out 'Moving to Vancouver' on Facebook for lots of useful information on planning your trip. We're working on a website with discussion forums etc so by the time January comes you'll know lots of people arriving around the same time :)

Vancouver is in BC and BC stands for Bring Cash. :D

As much as possible mate. It is a very expensive place to live.

Sound, thanks for that. Did you go over on your own though? Move in with strangers? Would have thought it would cost nearly a grand on rent, bills, and food alone!

Thanks for that Ruairi, have added your site on Facebook, and it is very helpful. I think once I have found a decent place to live, at a reasonable enough price, I'll be ok.

Recently sent in my application. The confirmation e-mail said a 10 week processing time. I presume this is in no way accuarate?!?

Does anyone know what the average processing time is? There seems to be a lot of 14/16 week cases. Are these worst case scenarios, or are most cases taking this long?

Yep, I came over on my own. I met a great bunch of people in my hostel, mostly Irish and British and I met a lot of Canadians when I started working. If you're coming over on your own, don't worry about meeting people. I moved into a basement in Kitsilano with a University of British Columbia student. He was ok, kept to himself a lot. Your bare essentials every month, food, rent, bills, transport etc will prob come in at over a grand. All this is outside of any social activities you may want to do...of which there are plenty to do in Vancouver.
