Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For a list of perspective opponents for St. Pats see here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009-10_UEFA_Europa_League

They could be drawn against Villa, Everton, Fulham or even Roma!
Names like Shakhtar, Werder, Villarreal, Hamburg, Benfica, Valencia, Ajax, Lazio there and you mention just those teams? :)

What can the RDS hold as a football stadium?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,965 ✭✭✭✭Gavin "shels"

Possibly Tolka is the RDS isn't available either?

Could be some mouth-watering away trips for Pats; Roma, Ajax, Lazio, Partizan, Dinamo Zagreb (all teams I plan to visit in the coming years).

Pats in tallaght muncipal stadium for next round, RDS unavailable due to horsies hopefully we get tolka and we get riversio stand.

hopefully rovers dont have to move games for real european matches :D

    Great result.
If I was the opposition manager, I'd go into hiding for the foreseeable future...

I dont think they will be going shopping the afternoon of a game and bringing crates of beer back to the dressing room before the kick of of the first leg in Europe again

Depends, what if they draw Fulham like? Or even Everton, they're hardly gonna host those at Croker or Landsowne.

I dont think anyone will be playing at Landsowne for a little while yet.
Game will be at RDS again IMO.

I'd take Roma or Ajax at a reasonable hour for the neturals to come support us

Hopefully the club will make more of it than the Berlin game

Does anyone now if the "group" pairings for seeded and unseeded has been picked already ??
Would love to see us get a top name to Dublin.

Just under 20k these days? Or am I way off?

    Haven't been there for years.

As a pats fan a little disappointed truth be told
    One from

    Aston Villa FC (ENG) 1
    Odense BK (DEN) 5
FC Zenit St. Petersburg (RUS) 3
    FC Steaua Bucureşti (ROU) 4
    AC Sparta Praha (CZE) 2

Not your Romas or Valenica's I no.

My prefernce is numbered above . Dont want Odense as they gave us a pasting a few years back.
Apart from Villa it be hard to see a sell out

i wouldn't mind an aul trip to prague

sure it doesn't matter who we get lads, we're just gonna have to win the whole thing to be in it (and fly the LOI flag again) next season :D

Am I the only poster here who wants to see Pats drawn against a beatable side (we owe Odense a pasting!) so they have a chance of progressing to the group stage?

nope, your not alone, I feel Odense would be the most beatable - and fook do we owe them one! it appears most people have given up on the ideal of getting through and are more concerned with getting a huge gate, which would benefit the club (although nowhere near as much as some group stage football!)

i must concede that i've been drawn into the pessimism somewhat and with that in mind, i feel that if we were to get knocked out, prague would be the best place to help me get over it

*this is the last i will utter of the notion of us possibly not getting through!

Pats will get €1m from UEFA if they win this round. You'd have to be wishing for Odense.

Savage place to go for a football trip.

    I recommend Darlings ;)

Well that is a rather convincing argument.

Really? That’s a big step up from €90k!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

If you got Odense, I'd honestly gamble on stuffing Richer to the gills with partisan (or at least vocal) supporters and get right in their faces instead of having 7-8k rattling around the RDS.

The benefits of getting past this round far outweigh a once-off gate in the RDS.

Yeh getting to the group stages is the main money earner.

    UEFA Europa League 2009/2010:
    1st qualifying round: 90.000 €
    2nd qualifying round: 90.000 €
    3rd qualifying round: 90.000 €
    Playoffs: 90.000 €
    Group stage: 1.000.000 €
    Group match victory: 140.000 €
    Group match draw: 70.000 €
    1st knock out round: 200.000 €
    2nd knock out round: 300.000 €
    Quarter-finals: 400.000 €
    Semi-finals: 700.000 €
    Final: 2.000.000 €
    Winning the final: 1.000.000 €

If they could use Richer, I'm sure they would, but it doesn't meet UEFA's requirements for this stage of the competition. I think they'll probably opt for Tallaght or Tolka - I can't see the RDS being used unless they get Villa.

Awful draw. Not very winnable nor is it an attractive one for money making purposes. Shame.

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭sd08

At least they'll get a good crowd from all the romanians over here.
    Not too bad though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

    Tough.

Only consolation is away leg first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

Very tough draw indeed. Not impossible but extremely tough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,355 ✭✭✭dyl10

    That's pissed me off now.
Definitely in the category of one of the worst draws possible.

To increase attendance at the home leg?

I say the Pat's team at the airport waiting for their flight to wherever on Monday evening (I did not know who or where they were playing), then when I heard they won I though 'great I'll go and support them now'

I won't bother now, seeing as they got a bad draw

    Balls.

Not unless all 8,000 of them are Steaua fans.

what a pity...they deserved a better draw after their heroics the last night.

i hope they get a full house for the game all the same.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,752 ✭✭✭pablomakaveli

Did'nt they play Shels a few years ago?

Its going to be very tough for Pats but they might strike it lucky and nick a result. Their not the most glamorous of opponents though.
