Floor Joist issue

    Hi Folks,

Have just observed an issue with the floor of the boxroom. There is a dip in it. But the more important issue is this room is above the stairs opening. When one walks in the room the ceiling at one point flex's. Looks like at least one of the floor joists has been damaged at some stage. Can only assume when it was installed. The house was built over 6 years ago.
Should be fun and games in the next few days. Have to rip up a laminate floor, which then sit's on T&G plankets.
Have a very good idea of how to fix this, but it will depend on how bad it is when I open up the floor.
Anyone have any dealings with a likely issue?

Have you thought about approaching it from underneath instead of pulling up both floors?

    Hi,

Had thought about taking down the ceiling, but it would need to be replastered once finished.
It's only cheap laminate flooring and from the look of it wasn't installed properly anyway. Might end up having to replace part of the ceiling as I reckon the T&G flooring is holding the joist up. It's a bit of a mixed bag really, need to see what has happened and then how far back has the joist and noggings been damaged. Acro's are going to be needed to support the joist as it is repaired. Fun weekend ahead.
