Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Vista reinstall problem

    Good Morning people

I know there is another Vista reinstall problem but mine is different and I didn't want to hijack someone elses thread

Basically my hard drive died but not after giving a few warnings so I made a back up on an external hard drive

Hard drive was under warranty so I got sent a replacement

Reinstalled Vista on it last night and when I tried to restore the back up it couldn't find the files, looks like it isn't picking up my extrnal hard drive

Now I don't recall having to install drivers when I bought the external drive (seagate 1TB drive) and when I put in the drivers adn utilities disc from Dell it didn't give me the option to install anything

Any ideas, do I have to mount the external drive manually?

    Thanks

You should just have to plug it in and away you go, theres no real need to install drivers for most usb drives, vista generally picks them up automatically...
If you right click on my computer and go to manage, then go to disk management, does the external drive show up here?
It could hopefully just be something silly like a memory card reader is nicking the drive letter that the hard drive wants to use
Or perhaps right click on the drive in disk management, and choose set to active

I assumed it should just pick it up alright
Something about setting it to active rings a bell alright, the external drive is partitioned with one partition being Fat32 and the other being NTFS, thinks that might be the problem
The usb icon wasn't appearing the system tray though so I am not sure it was being picked up at all
Thanks I will try that out this evening when I get home
