Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    RIP Bobby...a true hero and a gentleman.
    Plus a saviour to Newcastle.
    It's a sad day for Soccer.

    A True Gent and one of very few that deserved to be called a legend. RIP

    RIP

    One of the few complete footballing legends.

    He was above Keegan and Shearar at Newcastle.

    The Irish players were honoured to have him in the Irish coaching set up.

    He will be remembered fondly by all who shared a love of football with him.

    Massive kudos.

    Re: Des

    I remember that Liveline well, I felt physically ill listening to it, for RTE and the FAI to put him through that was the most shameful thing I had ever experienced. I lost all respect for Delaney (had none anyway), Stan and Joe Duffy that day.

    Sir Bobby was worth twice of all those eejits IMHO.

    RIP Bobby, he was a very honorable gentleman, his behavior throughout his career puts a lot of the incumbent football personalities to shame.

    Sign of his class that as manager of the most successful English team since 1966, that their great rivals mourn his passing.

    RIP Sir Bobby

    I wish I could live my live being half as kind, polite and downright happy as you seemed everyday.

    Gent of course but also an absolute footballing legend in the truest sense of the word.

    RIP. Was looking over his career -he had had 54 consecutive seasons at the top levels as a player and a manager - incredible.
    RIP

    He was above Keegan and Shearar at Newcastle.

    Just wondering why he is mostly associated with Newcastle. I know he's from there and it was his last major job; but he played over 200 games with both Fulham and West Brom and managed Ipswich for 13 years (where he won a Uefa Cup).

    One of the best examples of how a football manager should go about their business.

    Terrible to hear of Bobbys passing. His achievements with Newcastle are all the more impressive considering all those who have tried and failed since he left. A legend of the game

    What was the award Bobby won, or maybe he was presenting, where he was in a bad way and had the top hat on? The speach he gave at the time was brilliant. I wasn't this but a nice ovation anyway:

    If

    If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with triumph and disaster
    And treat those two imposters just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breath a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

    Rudyard Kipling

    May be a bit over-sentimental but i think that sums the man up

    Has been through it all and even last week at the charity game he was smiling, smiling to the end

    Obviously it's been on the cards for a while but sad to hear this news nonetheless having grown up watching what he did with Ipswich in the 70s/80s.
    If anyone hasn't read it his autobiography is a great read. Can be had in HMV.

    The year Robson managed Ronaldo he scored 68 goals in 67 games. (including all competitive games and friendlies/ pre-season) Ronaldo was the most talented player of the past decade imo, and Robson managed him for his most impressive season... That says it all.

    Forward to 2 m 11s in this video and watch the goal Ronaldo scores, it goes through 2 replays but then watch Robsons reaction on the sideline.

    I think it's hilarious.
