all this means is that you won't be seeing DT in Ireland as long as either they have that attitude or the Agent does.......

I'm glad I picked up my front row seats for Opeth when they went on sale.......should be a good one.....looking forward to finally catching them live....
its usuallly the promoter and not the bands fault

I got my tickets for the Progressive Nation gig in Glasgow on 11th October. Bigelf are playing The Cathouse in Glasgow 12th with Opeth now playing Dublin 13th. Would be great 3 nights in a row if me and the mates hadn't already booked flights an hotels for 10th and 11th.

Seriously folks you can do 2 nights in Glasgow for the price of 1 night in Dublin. When you take beer money into it Glasgow wins hands down.

I booked flights over to London on the 9th & back on the 11th with the intention of going to Porcupine Tree on the Friday & DT on the Saturday, but feel a wee bit guilty now if I don't go out with my bro & his oh on one of the nights seeing as I am staying with them. My other bro & his gf will be in London the same weekend too, so might have to forego Porcupine Tree completely.

Im kinda confused.... Is there a Progressive Nation tour date for Dublin or not? Is it just an Opeth gig on October 13? I dont see anything about Progressive Nation show on Ticketmaster...

  • Registered Users Posts: 459 ✭✭PattheMetaller

According to DT's website there's no gig for them between Glasgow on the 11th and Brussels on 17th.

If the Progressive Nation Tour can fill the SECC, i can't see as to why it can't fill the 02. Probably be the case though that Irish DT and Opeth fans have already made plans for one of the UK dates.

I wouldn't read too much into Irish Album sale statistics for BC&SL. I got the Deluxe Collector's Edition Box Set via Amazon.co.uk so it would have been included in UK statistics.

unfortunately not, all this talk started from a mistake on the opeth website, were their gig was listed as a prog nation one, mike portnoy said offically on his website that pn09 wont be coming to ireland, as the week that opeth play is a week off for dream theater, hope that clears it up for you..

It's only an Opeth gig over here even though Bravewords posted that it's a progressive nation gig in Dublin.

MCD have confirmed to someone on Metal Ireland that they were offered DT, but only if it was an O2 gig which is too big a venue & so they wouldn't fill it. Very unlikely that DT will play here again unless their popularity greatly increases or their fees dramatically decrease, as they look for quite a lot & just don't have the fan base in Ireland. Shame, but that's the way it is.

the only venue i can think off that would suit them would be at the marquee in cork, or the olympia or kings hall in belfast, and they'd definately sell them out, althought dream theater arent as popular here as elsewhere, they still have a decent fanbase, also i get the feeling that dream theater wanting to play the o2 is a minor mistake on their part, as a lot of the smaller acedemy venues in britian are called the o2 acedemy.. maybe they taught the point was the same??

REsurrecting this thread with a nod toward both bands. Opeth have been playing Herlequin forest live now, and windowpane, which really excited me on a big scale. SOunds like they'll be some hell of a support act, and then headliner few days later.

DT on the other hand, for those travelling, have been belting out mouth-watering sets. Songs like Nightmare to Remember*, the Mirror*, Lie*, Prophets of War* Dance of Eternity, One LAst Time, Name of God*, Count of Tuscany*, Wither* They gonna be giving a lesson in awesomeness very shortly

*indicates songs I expect and/or hope for in London.

Throw in Pt playing Anaesthetize, Lazarus and Bonnie the Cat on top of The Incident, and it could be 3 magical sets in a short space of time.

Ha, they ones I want to see, not expect. BUT, they did those in Sweden, as they played there this year. So cos I seeing them in London, well they played Download, Leeds, Southampton, I find the chances could be quite high of them.

I imagine they want to stick to arenas for these Progressive Nation dates but The O2 is simpy far too big. They would need an additional act as big as Dream Theater aswell as Opeth for it to push tickets, even then it wouldn't fill the venue.

For Dublin the RDS Main Hall is the most ideal venue capacity-wise, but I get the impression it's a last-ditch resort for concert promoters. Poor venue for gigs and requires a significant amount of adapting for concert use.

Again, it's another case of there not being an adequate venue for such concerts in the 2,000-5,000 range. As for a non-PN date though, Dream Theater would suit the Olympia just fine. I find it odd how they have snubbed us for so long as I feel they would sell out the Olympia comfortably.

Ah its very very likely especially since voices and erotomania were playing in the uk in the summer, so they wont be played again... in the name of god seems like a tour definate.:D

we really do need a venue like that, the funniest thing is its not dream theater who snub us, its the ****ing stupid promoters who care more about selling beyonce and britney spears tickets for 100 euro a pop and dont see a progressive metal band who sell there tickets at reasonible prices as a valid comodity, and rather not book them to come here:mad::mad:

My GOd its less than a week. DT at Dusseldorf:

    A NIGHTMARE TO REMEMBER
    THE MIRROR
    LIE
    WITHER
    (Quick Keyboard Spot)
    PROPHETS OF WAR
    THE DANCE OF ETERNITY
    ONE LAST TIME
    IN THE NAME OF GOD
    THE COUNT OF TUSCANY

I will not survive that after Opeth, its not physically possible. From all accounts, bands are on top form, shall be interesting to see them blow us away, no matter which show your at. I for some reason feel London will get more similar to this rather than having Hollow Years or Solitary Shell, which will be in Manchester or Glasgow. Just odd feeling.

Holy mother of God were both bands good on Saturday? Akerfeldt is a funny guy(despite maybe not wanting to:P). Really pumped for tomorrow now, will be good to see them in small venue with more songs.

All mainly Progressive Nation lists, but they played Burden in France for the first time( I think)

Fingers crossed for "When"quite possibly the best song ever!

Thanks Nea! Really looking forward to it. Missed out on them last year because I had the flu, so hopefully this one will make up for it!

    No bother.
I always get excited before seeing them, more so than other bands.
    Shall be a good gig!

    Setlist:
    April Ethereal
    The Lotus Eater
    Reverie/Harlequin Forest
    Hessian Peel
    Windowpane
    The Leper Affinity
    White Cluster
    Hex Omega
    Deliverance

Highlights for me were the opening track, t'was mighty, as well as Harlequin Forest and the endings of both Hessian Peel and Hex Omega.

Mourning Beloveth bored me to death, nearly fell asleep. Also plenty of douches in the crowd shouting stupid things during the quiet parts, but what can you do?

Also, before Deliverance Fredrik did a guitar solo, and after people began chanting "bass solo!", so Mendez obliged, followed by a drum solo chant, which resulted in Axe doing a nice solo, and same deal again for a keys solo.

Finally people started shouting at Akerfeldt to do something, so he got the crowd to clap a beat while he "rapped" over it, which was quite funny. Bit less banter than usual, but the performance was as usual great.

Have to say I was slightly disappointed at the gig tonight. There was something very flat about Opeths performance. They didn't seem to be enjoying it as much as previous times I've seen them. Maybe the new band members are taking time to gel?? I have to say the highlights for me were Harlequin Forest and April Ethereal.

    Enjoyable gig.
MB were good. The Apocalypse Machine was deadly, enjoyed them more than I did at Primordial.

Opeth were great as usual. Encore banter was fun. Highlights for me being Harlequin Forest and Hex Omega. No When ...boo. I will admit that I preferred the gig last year.

I would say they are wrecked this far into the tour rather than an issue with band members.

Didn't see Mourning Beloveth, arrived at bout 8.30. Set was highly similar to Saturday, except different way around. Leper Affinity was amazing. Really enjoyed the night, they certainly natural at entertaining. Meeting them after was cool, Martin a tad shocked when I said he owned Portnoy on Saturday. Might put up the few pics with them.
