No money in taxiing? Best Taxi you have seen? Thread # 2

I've seen a few (more than one anyway) s-class taxis with xx-y-5320 registrations...shudder, including a silver w221 with the AMG alloys.

Also, I always seem to see a silver LS430 about. How that guy manages to make any money is beyond me, I wouldn't have thought that V8 was the most frugal.

I've said it in another thread, but there's a gorgeous 530d Msport Bmw taxiing around Limerick now. Looks an absolute cracker and I think it has some form of Alpinas on it.

The disgrace lies with the Taxi regulator, how those sh*boxes are still on the road is beyond me.. I thought all Taxis now had to be of a certain age.

well if you insult somebody, expect to be insulted back in my opinion

if you didnt want to get into the corolla, then all you have to say is i dont to get into a car i conside unsafe and not up to standard, and take the next one. the customer has the right to pick a taxi from a rank.

the TR should be campaigning for some sort of rebate or discount for full time taxi drivers where their cars can be the safest in their class and maybe VRT exempt.

makes the cars a bit more affordable.

all taxi's are taxed at 82 euro, irrelevent of the year of the car.

A lot of those drivers of Lexus LS400 and the like are most likely just car enthusiasts that see taxiing as a way to have a nice car. I know there was a guy in Cork with an LS400 (& I've been in another one in Dublin recently), I'd say the reality of running such a car as a taxi hits home fairly quickly, fual costs are only part of the equation.

I'm really not bothered what carries me. If it gets there quickly, that's enough.

I know there was a guy in Cork with an LS400

That dude is in to bikes, he used to have his own car security and audio install business, could never understand why he went taxiing to be honest. In fairness to the taxi chaps their income must be down substantially on a few years back. If I was a taxi driver I'd drive a late 90s avensis, once it was kept clean and tidy it would do fine. Folks complaining about getting into heaps of sh1t of taxis would really want to grow up a bit.

Maybe i was abit blunt but i think after all the years of Taxi drivers reaping the benifits of their trade most should have invested in a car no less than 7 years old at this stage. Their is no excuse for Having these crap wagons on our roads. It did boil down to greed, and they know they can get away with it cause the TR seem not to care.

Also The abuse i recieved was because i wanted to choose another cab at the rank, not so much for me calling his Taxi a sh*tbox and lets be honest you couldn't take much pride in yourself or your profession owning such a heap. Hurling abuse cause he had been waiting X amount of time for a fair blah blah, my heart bleeds. Irish people are just too laidback when it comes to a clean quality service in this country.

We got a brandnew long wheelbase S320 last year from the airport into Hueston Station. He said he does Limo work as well with it.

It was CLASS! Driving into the city in a narrow built up area in some 50kph zone and i assumed we were going about that speed, maybe a little faster. I looked at the speedometer and it read 120kph! There was absolutely no sense of speed in that car. I would lose my license so quickly if i had one.

Been in it. It is deffinatly not as flush as most would be led to believe. I assure you that :)

    It's pretty nice tbh.

Didn't get the badge on Merc taxi travelled in last year but it was fully leather & had meter display built into the rear view mirror section. As we passed the Audi showroom near my home we were admiring the R8 when the taxi driver said he was looking at getting a new Audi A6. Maybe he was a hobby taxi driver but he got my attention...

    Well,

for a real kick on a thursday/friday/saturday night, try to see, if you can catch this Ford Transit (i think it was, but couldn't say for sure, because we were so stunned by the interiour) Taxi.

He's got a full disco-light and proper sound system interior in it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TPuSYm7TOM

It's a Dublin taxi, so you might just get lucky.

I'm probably a little bold for bumping such an old thread, but I don't think it's worthwhile starting a new thread for the sake of two pics...

Here are the to best Taxis I've seen. I can only presume they're both real. :D:confused:

Seems common place among Mercedes taxi drivers to "up" their car a bit by using fake AMG badges and fake multiple exhausts. Isn't that right Mercedes Man (father of toyota boy)? :p

saw this in Cork at 6am this morning. 05 Murano. Brave/foolish man to use a 3.5 litre petrol SUV as a taxi

A nice E60 5 series taxi in my area, 2004. Hardly wallet splitting, but makes a very welcome change to the regular taxis. Also an E270, 2007, thats very comfortable.

Id say alot of these pre- 08 taxis, have a taxi plate to avail of the cheap tax. If you think about it you can get a plate for around €1500 the tax on some of those cars would be more than that.

I was in an Audi Q7 taxi recently in Dublin city centre. Very nice!

Seen some 10 reg mercs around recently, they all say "Executive cabs" as their company on the plates.

In Cuba I got into what I think was a 1960s Lada. The thing was an absolute piece of ****, full black, windown tints all round (letter box on the front windscreen) plenty of plastic lights fitted inside. Playboy stickers all over the outside. Hardly managed thirty getting home. And saw that stretched lada a few times in Havanna, in fact their are quite a few of them.

There is a black cab with irish taxi plates going around dublin atm.

How hard do you have to think to get a plate for €1,500? Apart from the other extra costs.....

Thats a great example as to why the 9 year rule is a good idea.

(obviously a 00 S class taxi shows that it isnt universally a good idea mind)

Any pre 08 car won't be much more than €1500 to tax, nor can you PSV a car for €1500.

That's true alright. If you're giving a hotel a lot of business they'll certainly send a premium taxi car to collect you from the airport and the hotel pays
It's a nice touch, it impresses people and doesn't cost the hotel much

There is a Bentley going around Dublin. A taxi driver told me he is retired and just doing a few hours to keep active. That seems likely to me
    Never been in it though

There is most definitely not a "Bentley" operating as a taxi, it is a Chrysler 300C with a "Flying B" badge, it is a common (and utterly pointless) mod to the 300C which is known as the baby Bentley in the limo trade. You may as well stick Jaguar badges on a Mondeo (at least they shared some parts underneath!)
