Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Since there are no changes to the basic superthread rules you may as well work away on this new one while I put the finishing touches to amended charter.

    Welcome to the new season!

If Alonso leaves and isn't adequately replaced I think you can kiss that 'quest' goodbye!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I have faith in Rafa having the ability to replace Alonso with the quids we'd be getting for him. Rafa excels in buying central players.

There's talk about us buying Lee Cattermole?????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I don't think Catermole would be the Alonso replacement & if he was i wouldn't be happy & it'd be a big risk, , but i'd love us to get him tbh, gonna be a quality player over the next few years, more in the mascherano role though.

Acquilani would be a fcuking QUALITY signing, I can actually see him being better for ye than Alonso.

If Liverpool lose Alonso,Arbeloa and Dossena but gain Johnson,Acquliani and Silva can an argument be made we are a better team.

All ifs and buts at the minute mind.

yes it can absolutely be argued that - Arbeloa would of been great cover but not 1st choice, same for dossena.

so you're talking about losing 1 definite started Alonso and bringing in 3.

Silva, tbh, won't be coming - didn't he pledge his future to Valencia recently?

Johnson - IMO - is a good buy. He'll compliment Kuyt no-end. That'll be the best right sided pairing in the PL. And Kuyt was doing alright with just Arbeloa, who offered far less going forward.

Dossena - no loss. Insua is, finally, a top class youngster to break the first team. He'll be left back next year, far better than Dossena.

Arbeloa - He would've been good for cover all across the back, and I think the £3.5m value was well under his price tag.

Acquilani - Have never seen him - so can't comment.

Cattermole - I'd take him along with the above, just for good measure. I think he's a great little player.

Turner - Another good, and English, centre half who we need atm. Real promise from this lad.

    Completely correct!

Alonso will leave - Masch will agitate for a move next season for sure and Torres and Reina will move on in their mid 20s.

As Ronaldo has done at Man U.

The number of appearances Aquilani has managed for Roma over the past 3 seasons would be a bit of a worry.

And now that the old thread is over, allow me to be the first to congratulate him on being a Utd fan, who was the fourth highest poster in the Liverpool thread for last season, which was in turn the highest posted in thread on the page.

Torres has also mentioned that he wants to play in Italy or Spain again in his career - you can be sure if he will look for a move to a warmer Latin nation at some point in his career.

The point I'm making is that British and Irish players on the whole - people like ourselves - would view playing for a top 4 PL team as the pinnacle of our careers and quite happily live in Liverpool, Manchester or London.

IMO Latins at the top level - Ronaldo and Fabregas included - along with our players who I greatly admire - don't have the same view.

The allure of Barca and Madrid is too great to resist - club, language, climate, home.

You go to the Kop to support Liverpool not Ireland.

You will not see any Union Jacks on the Kop and rightly so.There is a campaign called Recalim the Kop campaign and its aims are to Keep Flags Scouse.

Irish people probably feel they need to "represent".

And the pic above - that I can totally understand. The people of Liverpool have always felt secluded from England/London - as if they were a nation of their own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Karmafaerie

    ?

There are thousands upon thousands of latin players, who come from dozens of countries.
You can't just paint them all withone brush IMO.

We have a lot of tools from Ireland who go over to Liverpool games,my views on this are well knowing on this board. That was one of my main reasons behind setting up Irishkop, nobody was doing anything about it so we try to educate people.

Tools for going over to support their club, and bringing an Irish flag?!

Which is probably one of the reassons a lot of Irish fans have a bad reputation over in Liverpool.

When you see Irish fans walking towards Anfield with The Scum under their arms, and their Irish flags over the shoulders, it can rightly piss off
    some fans.

When I go to Liverpool games I'm a Liverpool fan.
When I go to Ireland games, I'm an Ireland fan.

I don't think that being Irish has to be represented in my supporting of Liverpool.
I'd prefer to be thought of as a Liverpool fan in Anfield, than an Irish Liverpool fan in Anfield.

The cream of whom there are so few - Reina, Torres, Masch, Alonso, Ronaldo, Fabregas - who have the option to join these top Spanish clubs - will look for the moves if and when tapped up - Madrid and Barca mean more than LFC or MUFC - that's my opinion.

But Torres doesn't fall into that bracket whatsoever.

Latin players means players from all over South America too.

You've no Brazillian and only one Atgie in there mate.

I love Torres, Pepe and Masch (although this summer has dropped Javier down a bit in my estimation if all the stories are true), but they're not typical of all the best Latin players.
