I've said it before, and I'll say it again, there is no way in hell that Rafa fought tooth and nail in contract negotiations for jack ****. Rafa would not have signed a contract in which the owners would have been able to weasel out of the promises he made him. I mean FFS Rafa probably had an army of lawyers look through the contract in order to ensure that the owners don't screw him.

tbh lads... i think the problem is the transfer market... it's ridiculously inflated this year.... for example I'm quite happy with the Johnson purchase but £17(even if we are owed money) was way too much... and thats just at Liverpool.. Look at the Ibra deal (a player i rate but my god inter must be laughing!) and every deal Madrid and City have done..

Its been a crazy summer and i think rafa is just looking for some bit of value.

Also i was just wondering those anyone know much about Mata? Just curious..

    From BBC :

    Netherland 1 - 0 England

What on earth?????????? Rio Ferdinand attempts the most ridiculous first-time pass back to keeper Rob Green, Dirk Kuyt nips in and takes the ball to the byeline, beats Green and blasts in at the far post despite John Terry's presence on the line. Disaster. Win the World Cup? You won't win an egg cup with defending like that

    He's not a bird, he's not a plane, he's.....

Apart from the gift for Kuyt, Torres and Riera also on the score sheet.

thought Kuyt did great for the goal myself.

    Hopefully no injuries.

Riera, far play to him, he's banging in the goals for Spain. Might bring that form to Liverpool.

if johnson brings his england form to liverpool then i expect big trouble, what was he trying to do tonite, he nearly cut babel in half there at the end, looks a very average player in last 3-4 england games

i'm convinced at this stage that the man was bought as an extra right winger, which is fine.

but we might be right-backless at this rate. he doesn't seem to be able, and doesn't seem to want, to defend.

i'm just going to both assume and hope that i'm going to be proved wrong.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I'll bet he is transformed by Rafa and Pellegrino over this season.

Tonights performance showed most of the england team are very rusty

The arguments you make are completely daft.

If you have evidence of these silly mistakes fair enough but you don't. Its an argument that was thrown at him in his early career and like any defender he did make the occassional mistake. But the Rio of at least the past 3 years is not mistake prone.

    ^ Posted at 16:55 today

By the BBC: England's hopes of a morale-boosting result were undermined by a dreadful error from Ferdinand that gifted the Dutch an early goal.

Ferdinand's attempted backpass was desperately casual and fell well short of Robert Green, allowing Kuyt to round the keeper before finding the roof of the net via the outstretched leg of the despairing John Terry

(I know, I should be grown up enough to let it lie, but would you have been able to resist it? I promise I won't mention him again!)

    nice :)

to be fair though rio hasn't been 'prone' to mistakes for 3 years.

he probably won't even make one significant one from now until the World Cup.

and I used to be one of his biggest detractors. he's a remarkable defender now.

back on pool; i thought dirk was great tonight. he doesn't seem to have missed a beat over the summer.

riera's goal. boom! that is all.

and torres just did what any good striker should do; at the very least get his header on target.

let's just continue it on to the weekend lads.

I don't think he's prone to mistakes as such - he won't drop a howler every month for example. But I do think he's capable of the occasional clanger.

Anyhoo, back OT - unless I've missed something all of the LFC players came through tonight injury free, which is a rarity and good news.

    awesome news.

honorable mention in particular to Nando.

i pray extra f***ing hard every time there's an international break for him.

i swear those Spanish coaches normally put something in his drink to tighten his muscles.

he might get more defensive but that England performance is nothing to go by.The best right back in the league(arguably)and the most attacking right back we have had in a while.
Or if pre season is to be believed, the best attacking left back, now thats a transformation by Rafa:D

I'm dissapointed we didn't pick up Cattermole for 6m. Would have been excellent backup for Mascherano.
As it is, if Masch is out, i wonder will Rafa play Lucas as a holding player with Gerrard/Aquilani, or will he give Plessis a run of games?
The latter would be a gamble, but in the few premier league games he's played he's never done too badly.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez insists new signing Alberto Aquilani will prove to be a shrewd acquisition.

The Italy international has joined the Reds in a £15million switch from Roma, but is currently sidelined with an ankle problem.

The 25-year-old has been hampered by injuries for the past two seasons, with his first-team outings severely limited as a result.

His lack of action has led to fears that his body is unable to withstand the rigours of top level football.

Benitez, though, is adamant that is not the case, claiming Aquilani has just been unfortunate to pick up a few niggling knocks.

"If Aquilani was in a normal market he would cost £25-30m but because of the operation he had on his ankle he was a bit cheaper," the Spanish coach explained in the Daily Mirror.

"We have to wait for a month for him to be fit but he is a player we are signing for five years, not for five matches.

    Gamble
"He had a bad tackle and an operation and that's normal he missed matches. It would have been the same with (Fernando) Torres or (Steven) Gerrard. That is why I don't think his signing is a gamble.

"I was talking with a lot of people in Italy and people are saying it is a fantastic signing."

Aquilani has been brought in to help plug the gap created by Xabi Alonso's departure to Real Madrid.

Benitez admits he was reluctant to part with the Spanish schemer, but believes he has found an able replacement.

"We couldn't change the situation of Alonso," he added.

"He decided to go, we had to progress. You have to mange in the best way you can.

"Alberto is now under the control of our medical staff because he had been going to different people. He has the quality to settle down in England."

    Don't think it's been posted.
