so the consensus here is the same, everyone wants fergie to start with a strong a line up as possible then make an arse loads of substitutions, then probably do the same on sunday against chelski!

Yes please, except with Wes to come in instead of O'Shea, unless Wes has picked up a knock? Vidic badly needs some game time as does Valencia.

went down injured on the far east tour. Fergie said it was a thigh strain at the time.

Hopefully he will be fit to play today, and against chelsea. Same goes for Vidic. Both need run outs before the season gets under way.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists he has not been told he cannot spend heavily in this summer's transfer window.

The Red Devils allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to join Real Madrid for a world-record fee of £80million in July as the Premier League champions finally agreed to sell.

It was thought that the profits generated from that sale would be used to reinvest, but the only significant expenditure has been on Antonio Valencia and Gabriel Obertan.

Rumours have suggested that United's owners, the Glazer family, have prevented Ferguson from investing, but the Scot insists that is not the case.

"Pay no attention to the cynics who have suggested our owners have stopped us spending," he told United Review. "Believe me, it was purely a football decision.

"Maybe it is the Scotsman in me but I believe in value, even when I am spending someone else's money, and the asking price for players we were looking at just wasn't realistic.

"What you must remember is that we are working from a position of strength.

"We don't suddenly have to splash out to try and compete at the top."
    ..

Celtic 2-0 in moscow and well into injury time, fair play to them :D

correction, all over, they are through.

Next stop is United match :)

    re: Fergie's comments...

to be fair, it means he would have liked to strengthen in certain areas.

he just won't be held to ransom, which is commendable. a key point imo, is that he's also been helped by the fact none of his closest rivals have been able to strengthen hugely - the only big 'signing' imo is the return of essien from injury for chelsea.

he can afford to not be as worried as he maybe expected to be before the window opened.

so ironically, man city's and real madrid's inflation of the transfer market may have aided you in a weird sort of way!

    Vidic and Brown still injured.

Tommy and Foster both to play a half each.

Ritchie De Leat plays (i think)

Just going by what Fergie said to the MUTV reporter. No confirmed full lineup yet.

have they given any time frame on how long vidic and brown will be out for? they meant to be back for the start of the season?

David Silva not starting. don't know if he is on the bench.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭eclectichoney

Oooh delighted to see de laet start - think he could be a handy player for back-up for any defensive crises (i.e. the cursed RB spot!), so will be looking to see how he does, especially now that Eck is gone :(. Looked decent against Hull.

Nice to see Tosic and Valencia on the wings too.

Another conventional 442, looks like that's our formation for the season.

Great to see that Fletcher wasn't shoved into RB, hopefully he does a job in CM

Will be good to see how Rooney and Owen do together

    Paddy Crerand's lastest musing:

"When you play for a club like United you HAVE to try and win."

Because clubs like Villa and Spurs its ok if you dont give a ****.
