I'd throw De laet in RB to be honest. He had a good game the other night, keep him going.

It's alright Headshot, you know we dont mean it :P

what you mean we ? :P

If rafael is fit he should play over De Laet.

    Well then I don't mean it :P
If Raf is fit, then yeah he plays, obviously :P
But seen as he is supposed to be injured, I'd stick with Richie :D

Who would everyones preferred right back be? Personally i say Rafael!

I'd have to say, if fit, Wes Brown. Without a doubt.
Rafael has got years to make the right back slot his own and he was one of my favourite players last year.
But give me a fit Wes anyday.

I'd nearly love to say that too, but I'm just not sure about him defensively at all, he's far too easily beaten, and over commits a lot too. That should get better with age though. Nothing wrong at all with him going the other way, he's already one of the best attacking full backs in the league.

I'd still have Johno or Brown ahead of Rafael at the moment, but I'd certainly give him plenty of game time to develop. He's gonna be awesome in the future, but he's not there quite yet IMO.

JOS should be first choice until somebody proves that they are better than him in the position. He rightly finished last season first choice and still should be. Brown basically took a season off last season so should have to earn his place like O'Shea had to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,775 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

Its between Wes and JOS and I change my mind pretty much every week. Id go with Brown, I just love his attitude and no nonsense tackling.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,219 ✭✭✭✭Pro. F

That's a recipe for disaster! Both Evra and Fabio can get caught out by a quick winger when they go forward, would leave too much space behind Evra on that wing.

    wha
Evra has no problem defending and it's not like Fabio doesn't track back. I would say they have a great potential as a left sided pair. Although I think Ferguson is concentrating on Fabio being a full back so it probably won't happen anyway.

At the moment JOS. In the long run I hope Rafael continues to grow and eventually becomes the best RB on the planet, then he can take over from O'Shea

ya jos cos of his experience, rafael owuld be sound against the lower teams but you feel he might be taken to the cleaners some match my malouda or rierea or walcott, even tho he hasnt yet!

I'm not saying Evra isn't a good defender but I noticed he was caught a few times in the Audi Cup chasing back to catch the winger and sometime he won't be able to catch the winger. Fabio isn't that good defensively yet, he needs more experience, as does Rafael, both great going forward but do leave a bit to be desired when defending.

But Fabio wouldn't need to be that good defensively if he was playing left midfield - he's more than capable of doing the simple back tracking required in that position and that would give Evra all the cover he needs.

I don't think this going to happen anyway but I'm just talking hypothetically.

anyone think its about time gary neville was relieved of his captaincy like spurs did with ledley king last season ??? i personally would love to see rio been club captain

we still dont know whose taking penos or free-kicks

penos could be Rooney,im not too confident about that but regarding free kicks iv no idea

maybe ando but im unsure will he be 1st choice

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,763 ✭✭✭Jax Teller

fergie said he lookin at evra , carrick, anderson and giggs sayin there capable of takin free kicks and penos... if owen on the pitch id like t see him take penos .. hopefully anderson goal against boca wasnt a once off ,give him the chance id say

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,219 ✭✭✭✭Pro. F

What about Rooney taking free kicks? He strikes a ball so well, I would say he'd get a few goals from frees.

Wouldn't fancy him on penos though - don't think his mindset would be good for them.

I know Tosic wont be getting loads of game time but he's good with the dead ball. Fergie even acknowlaged this when we bought him last year.

nani takes a brilliant peno, as do carrick and anderson. I think free kicks will be between nani, anderson and giggsy (if he is playing).

damn i wish hargo wasnt crocked - great dead ball specialist, both free kick and peno!

Lol at Robbo saying he passed Capello on Wednesday night and he asked him who was playing at RB thinking he could steal him for the England team! (de Laet)

I really hope Hargreaves is fixed eventually, it'll just be such a waste if he never comes back :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

    love reading this

“I actually thought Macheda was brilliant on Wednesday night,” enthused Sir Alex in his Community Shield press conference.

“For his age he's exceptional. I think he's a top, top player. He's going to give me a real (selection) problem.”

    get in there kiko

    :Db Touche good sir.

How Aquilani will fare is a bit of an unknown alright, but Owen's penalty taking ability is not an unknown. I always used to dread it when he stepped up to take a peno, and about 50% of the time I was right to dread it.

It used to baffle me how such a good finisher was so bad at penos, but then again I really do not expect him to be taking them at United as there are quite a few players there I would see as taking them before him.

For some reason I think Carrick would be a useful peno taker.

He is nowhere near as good at penos as Berbatov. At Liverpool he was running close to missing 1 in every two, and pretty much continued that ratio at every club since.

United are littered with good penalty takers (tis not actually that hard).

Everton and more recently Munich aside, Arsenal a few years ago. United win more peno shoot outs then lose in recent times, wouldn't worry about.

Nani's peno the other night was one of the best I have ever seen.

Probably the laziest penalty ever taken! No fear of an adrenalin rush there!

Why doesn't Rooney ever take a free kick? Has he scored one since his debut?

I never feel confident when Rooney takes a free-kick as he rarely gets it over the wall tbh, I'd prefer to see someone lay the ball off to him to have a relatively clear strike at goal.

I hate these free kicks so much. So many times theres a blocker rushing out from the wall. We would rarely (the ronaldo free kick factor) do this with Scholes being the one hitting it and I was never a fan. Much preferred Ronaldo hitting the wall of missing the target!

I've been messin around with my FF team and I am using the 3 galacticos approach but now I really want Valencia in my team

    That Nani penalty was savage!

I think that Nani could really step up this singing. Actually, I think he will offer the performances that ye all think that Anderson will start putting in.

Can we ease off on the Michael Jackson references - Nani must be sick of it at this stage :D:D:pac::pac:

    Edit: Dammit dave beat me!

You try to take a penalty with the pressure of 70000+ people watching you try to score on one of the top goalkeepers in the world, and see how easy it is.

I Know it´s been said on here before, but if Nani gets more first team appearances, I think he can only improve

    I'd hope so.

With Nani, Valencia and Tosic on the wings we've got a fairly youthful and pacey bunch to challenge teams, which would appear to suggest a journey back towards 4-4-2, though I'd guess it's far more likely to be a 4-4-1-1 with Berbatov/Rooney/Owen always playing one up and one dropping back.

I'm excited though nervous about this season.

saw the early editions of tomorrows newspapers on ssn

and the people had utd being linked with david Moyes as our next manager

    hopefully not anytime soon

not sure do people know this story but Moyes was offered the assistant job at utd but utd turned him down iirc, fergie said somthing like "he reminds him too much of himself"

i would love to see moyes as utd manager in a few yrs, always rated him

looks like once again utd have found a real gem in Valencia .

He crosses a ball even better than Beckam did , because what we have seen so far , even under pressure , he finds the target.

    Roll on next weekend ..................
