Found a gem? Valencia was quite well advertised methinks.

I see young Michael has not found favour with The Don.

saw the early editions of tomorrows newspapers on ssn

and the people had utd being linked with david Moyes as our next manager

    hopefully not anytime soon

not sure do people know this story but Moyes was offered the assistant job at utd but utd turned him down iirc, fergie said somthing like "he reminds him too much of himself"

i would love to see moyes as utd manager in a few yrs, always rated him
seems like a really odd story - way too early for anything anywhere close to concrete happening, even if Fergie was to retire at the end of this season.

I'd say Fergie wont be going anywhere for a few years yet

Okay so its news of the world

    http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/443499/Inside-the-Reds-talent-factory.html

Story about united link up with Desportivo Brasil

This is the first time access has been granted to Manchester United's academy project in Brazil, a multi-million pound investment cut deep into Sao Paulo's crusty terrain.

Just three months into this amazing programme they opened their doors, giving Sport of the World the freedom to walk around this first-class facility 90 minutes outside the city limits.

It is here that the 108 teenagers, some of them with posters of Cristiano Ronaldo on the walls of their dormitories, dream of earning a multi-million pound move to Old Trafford. United have first option to sign the youngsters for a pre-agreed, fixed fee after signing a partnership agreement with Desportivo Brasil earlier this year.

"If one player is considered good enough to move to Manchester United, it will prove we are doing the right thing and heading in the right direction," claimed academy manager Rodolfo Canavesi.

"If they don't make it as professional footballers with United, they will have a second language and that will open up other opportunities for them," added Canavesi.

"For a Brazilian who can speak English, it means they can instantly get work in hotels, they can work in business, finance or another area."

    http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/443807/Owen-Hargreaves-crocked-United-star-faces-six-months-out.html
OWEN HARGREAVES has secretly flown to Germany in a bid to save his Manchester United career.

The England midfielder, 27, has been having treatment all week at the Munich clinic of top knee specialist Dr Hans Muller-Wolfahrt.

Hargreaves went to Munich after his latest setback and, although Sir Alex Ferguson said Hargreaves would return in 'two to three weeks', Muller-Wolfahrt told the player it could take SIX MONTHS.

During the visit it emerged that his tendinitis has 'similarities' to the condition of tennis star Rafa Nadal. Both suffer from the knee complaint because they base their games on short bursts of speed from standing starts.

Hargreaves, who had been at Dr Richard Steadman's surgery in Colorado, is expected to fly back to America this week for more rehabilitation.

But there are further trips planned to Muller-Wolfahrt as Hargreaves fights to save his career. The pair have a long-standing relationship from Hargreaves' time at Bayern Munich, where Muller-Wolfahrt is the club doctor.

The England star has not played for United since the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on September 21 2008.

If this turns out to be the case, United simply can't afford to think of him as a squad player anymore. If it is going to be another 6 months, and even then we can't be sure he'd come back, we have to simply forget about including him in player number/types and replace him, now. We need a player like him, and it looks like he is not going to be it, so we need to look at bringing someone in who can be our solid DM.

I like Hargreaves, seems like a good guy and is an excellent player when he can play, but he can't play and we have to move on.

It doesn't look like United will try to replace him, and even if we tried to i don't know who we could go for, Lassana Diarra would have been a good option last January, but i can't think of anyone available now. De Rossi would probably one of the first choices to look at, but Roma won't sell and he doesn't want to go.

As I say, I would love to see Hargreaves back, but we really can't afford to be sitting on this til February/March and hoping he can play some part then.

    FFS.

If this is indeed another 6 months I really feel we need to look elsewhere. I really rate Hargraves very highly but for the fee we paid and the hassle it took getting him the return we have had is just not good enough. I feel sorry for him as he is such a talented player but it looks like he will never be right at this stage.

No matter how true the Hargo story is it shows how well united did last season when he hasn't played since September 21 2008!

I do think fergie should sign a replacement. That way if Hargeaves is fit we have two top players for the Holding role which wouldn't be a bad thing. Otherwise we are relying on Fletcher again this season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭Quandary

Fletcher is only 25 and if he continues to improve like he has done over the last 2 seasons then he will be a very very good player. There arent any players out there that can be gotten for a reasonable price & be an improvement on what we have imo. I wouldnt have minded us getting Aquilani, if he settles in the prem he could be impressive but the scouse got their dirty mits on him :(.

Really looking forward to the game today & itll have a big impact on my FF team :)

i think Chelsea will be the biggest threat to us this yr + itll be nice to get a test run against them today.

Fletch probably doesn't get the credit he deserves. He was one of our most important players last campaign and his game is improving all the time.
It looks like a forlorn hope that Hargreaves will ever get back to full fitness, it's a shame cause he offered a lot to the Utd set up.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,421 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Fletcher has improved, I used to think oh **** not fletcher when he was selected, now I don't mind so much.

But if we are relying on fletcher I would be worried. I think he is a limited player that has worked hard to adapt his game to what united need. He deserves credit for that and he deserves some game time.

But I would prefer to go into a new season with Fletcher as a squad player rather than a guy we have to rely on.

    DM-ICE wrote: »

I was exactly the same & used to think Fergie maybe had a bit of a soft spot for him over the Scottish thing but i really think he's become more than just a squad player. Fair enough his first touch isnt the best but if he's played in front of the back four it think he can do a decent job for us.

Personally id be more concerned about our lack of a top class attacking midfielder if Ando doesnt step up!

Theres talks flying around of Sneijder beign linked with spurs/villa. If he is happy to come to England Fergie would be mad not to make a bid for him imo.

    lol. back on track;)

Not sure what happened with the Dodo deal, only read it on one site during the week, probably Tribal.

There was never any confirmation from United on the deal to begin with, so if it has been called of then it also be hard to find that out for sure.

It may turn out there was never a proper deal agreed, may turn out there was and that there still is.

    http://www.tribalfootball.com/man-utd-pull-plug-deal-corinthians-youngster-dodo-261706

Manchester United have pulled the plug on a deal for Corinthians defender Dodo.

The Times says United have decided not to sanction a £5.5 million deal to sign Dodô, the Corinthians defender, in the immediate future but will continue to monitor the 17-year-old Brazilian after he spent two weeks on trial recently.

The youngster was expected to move to United in February.

The NOTW story doesn't change anything for us (fans on this board) really. Hargreaves may be back soon, he may be back in 6 months, he may never recover. We knew that already.

I do agree that we need to replace him, sort of.. Personally I'm not including him in any thoughts about what our formation or squad should or could be. He's gone as far as i'm concerned and if he should happen to rise from the dead then all well and good but i don't expect it and i'm planning without it. I think Ferguson is thinking this way too.

So that leaves the question why hasn't Fergie replaced him. I think he doesn't see anybody suitable that is available in this crazy market. Also i really think that Fergie sees this as a rebuilding year. We can struggle along with what we have in CM for now. And by next summer the market will have calmed down and we can get in a new CM.

I know that struggling along with our weak central midfield sounds shocking bad. I've been complaining about our CM since Keane left tbh. I wasn't and still am not happy with Carrick or Hargreaves (because of injury) when they came in or now. We need a top class, well rounded, reliably fit CM imo. Now that Ronaldo is gone the problem is even more acute. But who can we get at this moment? Look at the ridiculous gamble Liverpool just had to take on Aquallani - they had no option. It might pay off but they had to do it. We are taking a different gamble imo - we're gambling that we can get by with what we have and then get better next summer.

Or maybe i'm completely wrong. Maybe Fergie sees Carrick as our long term first choice CM. I really, really hope not.

I think Fletcher is good enough to be the defensive midfielder but I would like for someone to come in instead of Carrick.A player who can get on the ball and control the tempo.I don't think Carrick is good enough against the top teams. What we have at the moment is perfect in the Premiership, but going into Europe,I don't think it's strong enough.

Not comfortable at all with Foster or PIG.It's reminiscent of the Schmeichel era ending and if we don't find someone to replace VDS, it could end up the same.

the likes of fletch are a brilliant squad player, but too limited for the 1st team.

he should just let hargreaves go..

Carrick actually reminded me quite of bit of Alonso during the period where United were dominating. Lasted until Chelsea upped the tempo and really put him under pressure.

Hopefully United will replicate last season's form. Pick up enough points against everyone outside the top four, minimises the absence of top quality in the centre of midfield!
