Have ya seen the thread that's asking for nominations to Mod the soccer forums?

I know he's too modest to put himself forward so maybe we should all get together and nominate Conno16? Who's with me.......

In fairness he was very good for us in Europe and could have been a success but we didn't have the system or the players at the time that suited him. Still looks a classy player today - a player that England would kill for that can control possession.

Sure he looked great againt the usual sub standard european sides we faced until we got to the knock out stages and was either played out of position or missing due to injury. I remember him missing the away leg vs Madrid and having no impact in the return leg as he was again played out of position.

    nope

I'd have the ban stick out far too quickly. Not nearly diplomatic enough to be a mod these days.

I was going to nominate you redout until I saw that it was only a thread to nominate yourself.

You or Mitch would both be excellent at the job. So would Pro.F actually.

Manchester United have ruled out a summer move for England international Joe Cole, BBC Sport understands.
The 28-year-old midfielder was released by Chelsea earlier this month after falling out of favour with manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Even before his Stamford Bridge exit, Cole had been linked with several other Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be favourites to sign him but United are not expected to be one of the bidders.

Chelsea confirmed Cole's departure when they announced German midfielder Michael Ballack and right-back Juliano Belletti would also be leaving.

And although Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-time admirer of Cole, a senior club source at Old Trafford said he would not be making a summer move to sign him.

Cole began his career at West Ham under Harry Redknapp, who is now manager of Spurs, and who will be able to offer him Champions League football next season should he wish to bring him to White Hart Lane.

Chelsea signed the Londoner for a fee of £6.6m in the summer of 2003 after West Ham were relegated from the Premier League under his captaincy.

Cole, who scored 52 times in 396 appearances for Chelsea, has netted 10 times in 54 matches for England.

He is part of the 23-man squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, although he did feature in the opening two group matches.

    Not looking good.

He was never an amazing signing, just a good signing considering our situation. I'd imagine his wage demands would scupper any potential United deal, sure Owen took a bit hit to come to United.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,713 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

ssn are also reporting that utd rule out bid for cole

That plus he would probably command a signing on fee as he is a free transfer. As for transfer targets or in comings it looks like it is going to be Nill at this stage. I really hope Hargreaves comes back pre season on fire.

I'm not feeling very hopeful about next season with both Carrick and Berbatov.

yeah because it certainly didn't lead to success 2 years ago...

and United weren't the 2nd best team in the league last season...

and United did not rely on Ronaldo at any point in those 2 years, or Tevez. Or Giggs and Scholes who are a further year older. The squad strength is exactly the same.

Ugh, I deleted that comment to avoid getting into this argument...

Tevez barely scored 2 seasons ago and Ronaldo, while still very good, did nothing playing in the centre that Rooney didn't do last season. Yes, the squad is worse than 2 seasons ago but imo, when they play properly, the TEAM is better than it was 2 years ago. The likes of that first half performance against Bayern wouldn't have happened 2 seasons ago because the team's strategy was just give the ball to Ronaldo and he'll win us the game.

While last season the team had to transition to there being no Ronaldo, imo this season they will be motivated and fine tuned to a playing style that they weren't used to last season and will up their game. Now obviously I might be wrong but it's just how I feel...

Joe Cole would be a decent signing, think it was 05/06 when he had a great season for chelsea .

  • Registered Users Posts: 158 ✭✭geoffraffe

Considering that Man U have no money this year, Joe Cole would be a great signing. I'm not saying that he's a world beater, but he's the type of player that's been lacking i.e. attacking mid that can open defenses. Pity it's not looking likely.

Huh, my first post in the soccer forum... Thought it would have been better.

    Opinions?

I for one like it. I tend to like all United jerseys once im used to them, I much prefer it to last years ultra-random black chevron.

I think the best kit weve had in years was this:
    73963536.jpg

and this years one isnt too dissimilar to that. Now who to get on the back... Evra? Rooney for the 3rd jersey in a row? Scholes? Carrick :p

I think I'd take Sneijder over Cole if there's any truth in this rumour

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2010/06/20/1985975/manchester-united-set-to-launch-20m-bid-for-inter-ace-wesley

chances are there isn't since they're citing the Mirror as their source.

Yeah that has popped up on a few news sites, all saying £20m, which imo would be an absolute bargain in todays market.

Christ on a bike! Why in the hell can we never pick up bargains like that and have to pay way over the odds for the likes of Carrick and Berbatov.

There was no value in the market last year.
