People shouldn't spend their money investing in a glasshouse because it has been known for centuries that stones are better for insulation and privacy purposes, therefore people should throw their money towards some good old-fashioned concrete.

    Right?
    Forgot "own" actually.:pac:

Finally a decent signing: Delph in the bag

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭mirwillbeback

On the back of his performances in the Peace Cup, does anyone think Guzan could be a surprise starter on the 1st day? Wigan at home doesn't seem the hardest test, and I wonder will MON take a chance.

Friedel is what 38 now, another season at the highest level might be a lot to ask....

i thiink he should be given a start for the wigan game. have to agree with you on friedal thinks he getting on in years and is slow to react to situations. and was at fault for a lot of goals last year imho.
Great to see a good turn out form boards the other night should organise a meeting for the wigan game if there is a few that arent going over for to villa park. cant wait for the villa game sat.

    Delph Fee Agreed

Aston Villa can confirm that a fee has been agreed with Leeds United for Fabian Delph.
The 19-year-old has made 53 appearances for the Elland Road side as well as representing England at under-19 and under-21 levels.
A Leeds United spokesman said the Yorkshire club: "Wishes to place on record our appreciation for the honourable manner in which Aston Villa has conducted their interest in the player.
"Leeds has resisted approaches from other FA Premier League clubs since agreeing terms with Aston Villa."
Aston Villa has been given permission to speak with the player and further updates will be announced on www.avfc.co.uk as appropriate.

Interesting. Don't know the first damn thing about this feller.

Only seen Delph once myself... and he didn't really standout. Good mate of mine is a Leeds fanatic (for his sins) and says Delph is like Gerrard in style - busy, all-action kinda player/great engine/good shot on 'im. Thinks he''ll develop into an excellent player...

Nice to see some movement in the transfer market though.

He's only 19yo in fairness, O'Neill must rate him.

Box to box, loves a tackle..glides past players with ease, scores a goal or 2

Its been rumoured that Inter could sign him for €12\14 Million because the deal for hleb has fallen through. Any point trying to launch a bid

Ah now, a signing of Sneijder quality would be just smashing. Fill the void left by Judas :pac:
City had agreed a fee with Leeds for Delph at the weekend, however, the Whites rejected their offer as Mark Hughes' side requested a week-long extension to consider the swoop.
Snatched from Money City, love it!

W00t! First post of the new thread. Seriously losing touch here. Good to see Delph in, but we need defenders badly (sorry to state the obvious!).
A striker would be nice also.

I've seen him a bunch of times and fully agree. Probably won't reach Gerrard's level admittedly but great engine and no doubt he'll step up the leagues easy enough.

Glad to see him go to a club like Villa. It's a great club for those players who are short of being top 4 material. Steve Sidwell a great example. I hope Delph does well.

In fairness to Sidwell. At Chelsea, He was behind Ballack, Essien and Lampard among others. At Arsenal he was behind Edu, Vieira and Gilberto.

Its little to be ashamed of not being able to break these midfields.

That's my point. He'd be no Masch, Gerrard or Xabi either. No shame, just no point trying to compete and staying on the bench when you have obvious quality as a PL player.

James McCarthy another example. Fully believe that the extra year at Accies and now moving to Wigan is a much much better move than having gone to Liverpool last year.

Delph is going to be a huge player, and it's at Villa that he's gonna get his international break-through.

Nice one on Delph signing. The question of the defence remains, i salute CCs Peace Cup performances but would still welcome spending silly money on Hangeland.

No a fair price or nothing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

the fair price thing should only really come into it when a player is 30+

any younger and it should be a case of paying whatever it takes to get him if you want him badly enough

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭invincibleirish

Whats a fair price then? for me silly money is £15m, but if you want a class defender then you pay the price.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,951 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

    interesting question for you fella's:

If we did sign a 1st team quality CB be that Hangeland, Dunne or whoever would you want Cuellar or davies starting alongside them when everyone is fit and raring to go?

obviously there would be some rotation but who for you outta Curtis or Carlos?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

    cuellar for me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭invincibleirish

I'd put Davies & Hangeland together but i'm still as optimistic as can be expected on Carlos, even considering some of the defensive horror shows last season(to be fair Davies & Knight were as culpable).

Guzan worth a start against Wigan as well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

cueller was played out of position for a good deal of last season though, which wouldnt have helped anyone in the defence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

    Davies & Haangeland for me.

Culler may turn out to be the better player but I think Davies and Haang would complement each other better.
