I really wanna head off for 3weeks or so, but currently all my friends are tied down etc.
So im just looking for any experiences on traveling on your own, is a good/bad idea?

My only major problem with the whole thing would be that I'm a pretty quite person.

    Cheers

Put simply if you are quiet i would not recommend it. I was travelling recently, and came across a number of single of travellers who were quiet and i couldn't understand why they thought travelling on their own was a good idea. This might sound harsh but tis the truth.

I would recommend maybe you go on an organised tour - this is an easier way to meet people.

I don't know, I'm a pretty quiet person and I don't mind travelling on my own. In fact, I think I'd hate being on one of those organised tours and stuck with the same people all the time. Even if you are quiet you still talk to people in hostels, you might not always have people to hang around with, but then sometimes you want some time to yourself. If you have nobody to go with, that shouldn't stop you going. Make a vague plan, and you never know, some friends may be able to join you for a few days here or there.

I'm quiet and I always travel alone.
Killed me to go talk to poeple at first but I found people talked to me so that was easier.
I did an round the world trip on my own for 15 months and I survived! It was fun.
I'd say go for it, if you hate it just fly home. Might as well try.

Interrailing alone is fine, but stick to the bigger hostels (I mean, book in advance) that way you'll meet people far more easily.

Just stay in hostels and you'll have a great time. I did this in 06/07 and the hostel environment is very conducive to meeting like minded travellers. I met a good group of random people in almost every city I visited which was great because I didn't have a bunch of mates pulling me in different directions either!
