Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lens Cleaning.

I've just picked up some second-hand Nikon gear, and it's manky! Needs a realy good clean. Any advice on what to use to remove greasy smudges?
I have some lense cleaning fluid, (which, usually, works great with some rizla papers!) but the smudges are too oily & greasy.

I've heard of folk using alcohol to clean their lenses. Is this isopropanol, methanol or ethanol or some other 'anol? Can you buy this in a chemist?

Lenses don't have any fancy coatings (apart from the greasy smudges!).
    Nikon 70-300 AF f4-5.6 G, Nikon 28-80 AF f3.3-5.6 G, Kenko Teleplus 2x MC7 teleconvertor.

    Any help/advice gratefully received.

(P.S. - shocking how some people treat their gear  )

I bought wet-wipes in Lidl for cleaning spectacles, they are
brilliant, gets them sparkly clean with no smudges, you might need
to use a few of them as they dry really quick, but they were dirt
cheap so very economical.;) Great for cleaning laptop screens too!

Try a little vinegar on some soft kitchen roll.

IPA (isopropanol) would be the one to try.

I definately wouldn't try methanol or ctone or nything similar.

You can purchase IPA in Maplin (they're very, very expensive with it though even compared to a lab supplier) if you don't have an industrial source but try anything else first as the IPA may possibly remove any coating on the lens.

    VERY FLAMABLE, VERY.

It'll also trun the skin white and dry out the natural oils in your skin. So be careful.
