Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't know how many years discogs has been around but it seems a long time since I first started using it and its by far my most visited site, a really brilliant database of music and it continues to get better all the time.

Whether I'm researching old or new music, looking into an artists back catalogue, reading up on a new or old label, planning to spend a few quid on new music... whatever, if it relates to music, I use discogs in some shape or form. The ability to enter an artists name and then see every release they have had, every label, every compilation, album or mix they have featured on, aliases they operate under, other production work etc etc, love it. I have yet to add all my vinyl to it but getting there slowly - I do automatically add any new purchases immediately - its great then to have the ability to import your entire collection to Excel, handy for insurance purposes etc also.

Some of the latest changes that have added are excellent, they have album images now as part of the search results and also youtube links at the bottom of the page - for example, the link below to 'Burger/Ink' now includes two videos from youtube which I added a few minutes ago, another fantastic aspect in that the site is mainly user driven.

Everyone here uses it I assume?! I can safely say that in my opinion it is by far the best music website, nothing comes near it that I have seen.

Yeah all the time. Its such a great idea for a site, simple but really effective.

    Fair play to them.

I joined it a couple of years ago and wasn't able to submit my collection and haven't bothered too much since. Bought twice on it, Chris Liebing - Stigmata and Slacker Fusion.

they dont handle digital releases too good.i had one person contact me about my stuff not being up there.im sure it could have to do with some sort of submission that the labels havent done but im sure theres more people out there with releases but arent on discogs.

    great for vinyl releases though

Probably not all, but I would think a large amount are from users - I've only submitted a few because it can be a bit of a pain to do but many of the labels that are catalogued from start to finish were long gone before discogs ever existed.

CDs too, and its great, not just good :pac:

I'm sure it could be a good digital resource too, if people got their fingers out... the youth of today, want it all to come to them. In my day......

Edit - throw some netlabels at it and see what comes up, I don't know any really so can't test it. One that sprang to mind purely because I stumbled across their website today is 'Earstroke Records' and they seem to have everything there - I know thats one random sample of many but as I say, I'm not up to speed with netlabels so would be curious to see what's happening there on discogs.

Ok, so I just did a google search for 'techno netlabel' and the first four results all have their full catalogue from what I can see listed on discogs. I know nothing about these labels but it appears the digital world may be represented alright on discogs.

It's a great site alright. I can't remember when I signed up on it, but I started using it seriously when I mp3'ed my vinyl collection a few years back. I contributed 5 releases from my collection that weren't up there, all Irish stuff - Sound Crowd, 4th Dimension and DJ Wool.

Just love Discogs. Contributing was a real pain in the past, but its much more rewarding since V4 of the site. Spent an age adding items I had which were not listed including many Irish releases. Now have my entire collection added. Phew.

I rarely use discogs for some reason.
I love http://www.allmusic.com/. It's obviously a more mainstream site but has a pretty comprehensive electronic database too. Sound files, bios and reviews, just generally great for expanding your knowledge base in all genres.
