hey guys, my apologies if this si a silly question, but if i have eircom 3mps broadband, with a wirless modem, can i just use any usb wireless dongle on a desktop to connect to it? I've never had a desktop before, and i'm getting an old one that doesn't have a wireless card...

    Thanks for any help!

Yes, any wireless network dongle should do the job

Yes usb dongles will work grand, I also reccomend getting a usb extension cable which allows more flexibility in getting a better wireless signal

They vary in speed, reliability, ease of installing driver and which OS is supported according to Model and Make. Belkin at one stage had 3 different chipsets requiring different drivers for the same model!

Not all USB WiFi work with all Airpoints/routers.
Make sure you don't get a Bluetooth, Mobile or AV USB wireless dongle instead. It needs to be 802.11g WiFi at least.
