government grants for bands

    should the irish gov encourge our music talent like in sweden in the early 1990's by giving assist to say 200 bands ie free recording ,gear ect
    sweden was going through the same probelms as we are now
    and they started this scheme
    they didnt hassle them by stoping the dole ect
    out of the 200 bands most didnt make it,but they had winners on there hands with ace of base,aqua, dr alban all brought in millions to the country with spin offs and gave the country a good image

    basicaly it was throwing out a sprat to catch a salmon
    surely to god as they only country in the world with a music instrument on a passport we can do it
    people worldwide want uplifting at moment
    what do ye think,

    Interesting idea, but would it create an unfair playing field. What if more than 200 bands are good, in that case would the committee tasked with handing out the grants give it to bands which they thought fit the criteria for being successful? What would they know about what constitutes good music?

    Nah bands make their best music when poor and miserable
    all musicians should be forced to clean out the waste buckets at mountjoy to earn their dole

    As horrible as it sounds he's probably right , you never hear stories lik , he was handed his mint condition Gibson Les Paul and Amp and has been been on top of the world ever since , the good stories are the ones like when Axl Rose had to write songs on Pizza boxes , etc . .

    wow if government grants results in the like of ace of base,aqua, or dr alban then let us all agree that it would be a horrible idea. Just plain wrong!
