Estonia approves national broadband network plan
    Friday 31 July 2009

The government of Estonia has approved a plan to establish a national broadband network, writes local daily Postimees Online. By the year 2013, the network should bring internet access with speeds of 100 Mbps to even the most distant rural areas. According to the minister of economic affairs and communications Juhan Parts, the ultra-fast broadband connection will be accessible on 90 percent of Estonia's territory by 2012 and everywhere in the country by the year 2015. Parts noted that a foundation will be created in order to build the broadband network, one in which all major telecommunications enterprises will be involved. The state plans to provide support worth EEK 1 billion for the development of the infrastructure in areas where creating the infrastructure would not be possible in terms of financial feasibility, namely in villages and in remote areas.

Just what we should be doing.... *sigh*

Another country getting ready to 'zip' by us in the broadband league. Surely we're in relegation territory now?
