Recommend a long range Wifi PCI card

Hi, I need to kit out two desktop machines with wifi connectivity to a network. I performed a site survey at their location and noticed that network visibility is low and unreliable from their location. Moving the machines is not an option, also upgrading the AP/Wireless Router is also not an option.

I remembered someone talking about about using a PCI card with an SMA connector and connecting an external antenna to that. Can anyone recommend a good PCI wifi card and antenna for such purposes?

    Desktops are XP/Vista based btw

Thank you for any pointers you can offer.
