Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Tbh - neither was !! :pac::pac:

    What swung it was a) DCT and b) colour.

    Still getting used to it: it's a far cry from my Road King......and missing the torque of the Big Twin a bit ! :P

    I have the standard panniers but nothing else. Depends on how long I'll keep it.

    I normally use soft luggage (tail bag/tank bag) but been thinking about a top box as I've been on the bike a lot this winter, do you notice a difference in handling when the top box is full ?

    I'll be honest with you and say I really don't know. I've been riding with a box empty and full for so long now that it largely goes unnoticed, sorry.

    Most bikes will react the same with a top box, so I'd expect the strom is no different, you'll notice the bike will be a little less stable somewhere above 100mph. I couldn't live without one, top box is a must for me.

    First proper day off in weeks. First day without rain. First proper clean of 2019. Shines so much I can see myself in the panels again. Only thing I want to do is respray the engine and the wheels, I think I'm going with black wheels for a change.

    This is the reason I got rid of my last bike, a Kawasaki Z1000.

    I loved the bike but the last few before it had top boxes, then to suddenly find that to carry as much as a sandwich to work required wearing a bag!.. Feck that, the bike went inside of three months ownership.

    I've soft cases for going away.

    My new AT is the same: on-bike storage is less than zero. You couldn't get a credit card under seat. Most infuriating. Makes a bike useless. No where to carry even the obligatory lock that simple must carry.

    Africa Twin owners, what's your opinion on your bike after riding it for a bit.

    Tank range, power (lack of?), wind protection etc.

    My son is currently looking at a BMW R1200GS (or GSA) but there are some good deals on the Africa Twin's but then he's down on power, tubed tyres, back to a chain (I'm usually the one who'd left to clean, lube and adjust them for him), slightly smaller tank and lack of heated grips.

    On the flip side of that you've got Honda build quality and reliabilty, and as much as I love my 1200GS in the back of my mind there's always question marks over BMW.

    IMHO its a step up from the Africa Twin with its V4 power, probably doesn't have the off road ability of the GSA but a nice bike nonetheless

    The top one is a cx custom so a different shape tank, different wheels etc.
    The bottom one is your standard cx and your one looks like a cx Eurosport but with a full fairing which I have never seen before.
    Is it American?

    Tank, wheels, shocks, maybe forks - lots may have to be changed .


    havnt looked much into which variant it is yet but its a later model (sports) with a 1986 number plate (which is weird - don't know if they were making them then)

    I meant originally! ;)
    There's been 4 cx's and 3 gl's in the family and still 1 cx in fact.
    The bottom one would be the closest to what you have.

    The two bikes above were originally the same,

    But the second one would be an easier template to follow , no doubt

    The top one is a cx500c (c for custom) and the bottom is a standard cx500.
    The top one has a smaller back wheel and a teardrop tank as well as some other differences.

    The one in the family,I originally bought and is a cx650c which I sold to my brother around 18 years ago.
    He has it still.
    He was a courier in London for years and would have used cx500's mostly for the job.
