I Think this place is finally closing! (Its been closing since last year I think). Seen some stuff getting moved out of there today, I'm looking forward to seeing the back of the place...although in fairness any time I was in there the staff were a nice bunch. Hope a good shop goes in there next.

They have been looking for the last 2 years. :P Rumours were that they were going to open in the Elysian but that didn't really take off so a nice cheap spot on Pana or Ollie Plunkett could work well :)

Planning permission has been granted for redevelopment of that store, along with neighbouring buildings, (including those on market lane) linking up with the buildings at the capitol cinema site and the Central show store. It will be a large retail, office development.
That's the plan...how quickly that emerges depends on the property market. In the meantime, we have to put up with short-term, crappy rentals.

Anyone been in the new discount DVD store where Zavvi/Virgin used to be?
Another example of Patrick Street trading down!

I asked one of the staff if the "Closing Down" signs mean Closing Down for good this time...he said "maybe, we'll see" so the answer is it may or may now close...still its a handy place to get some oldish NOW complilations for €2!

Not much good. No new releases that I could see but some overpriced old DVDs and CDs. Nothing much there for those with Blu-Ray and nothing whatsoever for gamers of any description..overall I'd rate it Poor. It's nowhere near as good as ZAVVI or Virgin were.

HMV have nothing to fear. BTW I think they'll be moving into their new Academy St. store soon.

If it was better organised then it wouldnt so bad. they basically have anything that isnt really listed as a specialist subject split up into feature films or previewed films. If you were looking for a certain film in there you wouldnt know where to start.

On the plus side if you have the time to search through the racks then you may find a bargain or two.

The world cinema section is improving as well, I over heard one of the staff saying that it will double in size once they get all their stock in so that should be good.
