ICF - Cut Roof Flush Eave/Fascia Board Material

    Hi,
we are building 2storey ICF house in west with cut roof and natural slate. We would like to do a traditional flush eave detail with no soffit. My carpenter has suggested using a Cedar Fascia board. Has anyone here used Cedar for the Fascia, did you treat the boards with anything? What size board would you reccommend? Where did you buy the Cedar fascia and how much does it cost?

Are there better material options for Fascia?

I have seen on another thread where someone recommended using glidevale over facia vent fv100.
    http://www.glidevale.com/2007-01_fv100.html
Is this considered the best way to ventilate
    or are there better options?

Also if it is going to be a cold roof, what airtightness detail would you recommend?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Windboy

    See the detail here:

I would not use timber against the external render as it will invariably warp and break the seal provided by the sealant along the external render.

Plus maintaining it with the guttering in place will be a pain

    Hi Carlow,

So the timber fascia board is screwed onto the end of the rafter and a small portion of the board will hang down and sit directly against the outside face of the 75mm ICF in my case. A seal (silicon?) should be applied to the bottom edge of the fascia board where it meets the ICF. And then the render is applied as far as this seal?

fascia goes on after render, IMO.

I provided the link just for info and not as a recommendation or advice so you must decide what is best.

    What is the gable detail?

In passing, if u ever wanted to add an additional layer of EWI to the outside, the trad flush fascia will make it well nigh impossible
