Scratching/crunching noise from PC?

There has been an odd scratching/crunching noise coming from my pc in the last few days. It isn't a constant noise and just seems to go off at infrequent ocassions. At first I thought it was the hard drive catching, this happened on a previous pc I had several years ago, but my bro who know a bit about that kinda stuff said it not the hard drive and he can't figure out what is wrong.

Does anyone know what this is and how it can be fixed?

Go inside the case and see if there are any wires dangling across any case fans or the CPU cooler. Loose wires scraping off or even jamming in fan blades often causes those weird noises.

Thanks advise solitaire, but I checked and everything seem in place to me. Anyone else have any ideas?

made a recodring of the noise with my mobile phone so its a nokia media player file. If anyone knows what this is or how to convert the file to a more universal program please help

Downloaded that but it doesn't seem to accept the Nokia file. Cheers anyhow leninbenjamin

i converted it for you here is the link now to an mp3, someone might be able to shed some light on it. me i think its a fan, are any of them loose? could be one of the fans in the psu either.

its really quiet, mine sounds like an aeroplane taking off!
