Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

    Long time, no post.

Anyway, I went to see the Sligo open over the weekend, to see what surf photography is like. When it's not raining on you, it's pretty good!

agree with above. 2nd photo is a godd photo, but the 1st one makes it look pretty ordinary.

Are these taken from the shore or were you in the drink ?

    Thanks folks!

I was on shore, but the tide was in during the afternoon which helped with the distance, but the waves were not as good (it seemed to me as a non surfer).

The body boards are easier shoot as I can tell what is peak action, I'm still learning on the surf shots.

They seem a little too tight to me.
It's nice to see a bit more of the wave, I reckon, sets the scene for whatever the rider is doing.

Fair play for getting out there and shooting something new though.

Yeah exactly, but like I said, that's just my preference for surf shots.
The challenge is then to shoot at an angle so you have a decent background as well.

Well I am Paudie and I do mostly shoot surf, so I guess so :D

Ahh - the eternal question. to watermark the heck out of a shot or not. I have been shocked and stunned at the way folks (some folks, not all but a lot) are quite happy to copy photos that they should not be copying. and are quite happy to print, put on web sites etc these images. It makes it very hard to make money from shooting certain events (I'm not talking about surfers here - just everything else I've ever shot).

because of that, I'm quite happy to watermark the crap out of stuff - what's on my site is even more blatently watermarked.

I've even been at events where we've been showing the shots unwatermarked on laptops, and if you turn your back, folks are taking pictures of the laptop screens with their mobile phones. I've had it happen to me.

I do appeciate that folks cannot be buying each and every shot taken, but I do price shots down to a fiver for a web image (no watermarks) which is perfect for web sites or facebook or whatever. Seems even that is too much!
