    Hi Goose06

    Thanks for contacting us.

Well, I can do the 42PFL5604H for €750 for you - down from its regular price of €850 so a nice saving to be had there.

Its a pretty cool Tv with all the features most people want /need at this price point -
    Full HD 24Hz compatible
    3x HDMI
    VGA input
    MPEG 4 tuner
    50000:1 contrast ratio
    remote control.....

    Spec can be found here.
    www.p4c.philips.com/files/4/42pfl5604h_12/42pfl5604h_12_pss_eng.pdf

Its a 42" screen size (Every inch counts:D.................in TV land)
If thats too large I can offer its little bro, the 37PFL5604H, for €659.99

How do these sound to you?

Of course you could step up to the next range of TV's - the 42PFL7404H
for an additional €50 but these are getting snapped up as fast as I get 'em. I sell these instore (well strictly speaking Boardies are snapping these up so fast I hardly have any stock to sell instore.....) for €1099.99 but the Boardies special price is €800 st the moment

This range adds 100Hz, 3ms response Time and 80000:1 contrast ration into the mix

    Spec here
    www.p4c.philips.com/files/4/42pfl7404h_12/42pfl7404h_12_pss_eng.pdf

    What do you think??

    Cheers
    Ash

Hi Ash thanks for the quick response, unfortunately I only have NTL at home (the joys of apartment living) so I'd be a bit concerned that the quality might suffer on the 42, do you know anyone who has bought this with NTL and what it looks like?

I'm in the same boat - cant mount a Sky dish on my place so I have to use NTL - as long as you have NTL digital it will be fine - I have a 42" myself.

Thing to remember is the TV will get better as your sources improve - Blu-Ray etc will really bring the set to life

of course sooner or later NTL wil offer a HD package......

    cheers
    Ash

Hi Goose, got the 42 inch 8404 myself on Sunday. I'm using NTL's PVR and the quality is excellent. Blu Ray (I also got the BDP3000) is amazing!!

    Hi Ash,
I have got the TV and BR up and running and I have to say its pretty amazing. I cannot believe the quality of it. NTL/UPC digital looks outstanding, I cannot wait to see what HD channels will look like on it.
Thanks for taking the time to help me load the TV into the cab as well, really appreciated it especially seeing as you were run off your feet in there Friday afternoon and the free start up kit with the Leinster season ticket was a nice bonus too.
Just one small thing though, on the BR box it said that there was a free copy of Slumdog Millionaire with it but unfortunately there wasn't one in it. Is there anyway I can get this?

    Thanks
    John

    Hi John

No worries, it was my pleasure.
Glad your enjoying it - you can see why its been so popular with Boardies!

Very Sorry about the absence of Slumdog Millionaire on BR in the box I'll get one in the post to you first thing tomorrow.

If you need any guidence with the set up just give me a buzz.

    cheers
    Ash

    Cheers Ash,
I'll be messing around with it for the next few days, driving the other half to distraction no doubt, if I'm having difficulties with anything I'll drop you a PM.

    Thanks again John

I do have the 42pfl8404 (7404 with net and ambilight, but everything else is the same) and is amazing (coming from a 28" CRT)
I have NTL digital, but not HD, and quality is very good (better than in other tv's i have seen)
I bought as well an amplifier, so I get the sound in 5.1 and it upscales to full hd, and still, quiality is superb (cannot really see diference on quality of the upscaling between amp and the tv)

And blue-ray movies, and even dvd (blueray player upscales them) look amazing too.

Yep the 8404 is excellent on SD but flipping mega on HD sources! Have you seen the 9664 review in What Hifi October issue yet?

Just to get my tuppence worth in - I have a 42" 7404 for a week or two and as JohnMc says it is incredible for HD. I had an old 32" HD ready Tv and I thought the picture quality was good. To be honest the new TV has given a new lease of life to my Blu-Ray collection. Blu-Ray was meant to be watched on a TV like this. Can't recommend the TV or Richersounds/Phillips shop enough
