Hey guys just wondering where people think is the best place in town to go for a coffee, preferably for taking a young lady friend with you!

I like the Pizza place cant think of the name just beside the Savoy on O'Connell Street but where do you think is the best. Smallest, hidden away places are the best so if anyone knows any of these then throw up the details!

Bit out there Admiral. He had a little spot down further and indeed that has become Darwins. But he now has The Bald Barista operating from the front of The Avalon Hostel a little bit further up the road. This was his original one but it wasn't always open to the public and was used for hostel guests. But it's been open for public a good while now, possibly since that one at Clarendon Hall apartments closed. Great big room with plenty of space. Top notch.

there is a place on westland row, near pearse but i can't for the life of me remember the name
excellent coffee there, not sure what its like to sit in though as most of my coffee is take out

i vote for Darwins as well, mmmmm coffee

for atmosphere and not too bad coffee, there is a place in temple bar, just opposite the purty kitchen...they do specialist teas as well

The Italian in the Epicurean does great coffee as does Caffe Parigi on Sir John Rogerson's Quay (bit out of the way though)

    Cafe di Napoli

It really is very good coffee.

It used to be among the cheapest coffee around, until they became well-established and were able to confidently raise their prices to Dublin standards.

Wow, really great stuff i hadnt heard of half of these places, really makes for so much better than just heading to your starbucks or insomnia where the coffee is average and the atmosphere is nil

La Corte is the place in the Epicurean, that's my regular watering hole since I work on Abbey St.

Now, if you're trying to wow her a little, try any of the places in the Italian Quarter down the road a bit by the Luas stop/Millenium Bridge. Bar Italia is lovely for dinner too, as is... crap, there's a bunch of them down there. :)

I agree the coffee is nice in the bald barista, but the interior isnt the best,
Butlers cafe is a nice place for a coffee and the free chocolate you get with the coffee is a rather pleasant treat.

+1 for il caffe di napoli on westland row, lovely place, lovely staff, lovely coffee..

i also really like the joy of coffee just around the corner from tbmc/button factory/rory gallagher corner in temple bar..

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,879 ✭✭✭Coriolanus

They don't brew it strong enough in Butlers Liffey St and I have a thing against paying 65c or whatever to get an extra shot. Afaic you should be able to order a strong coffee and get it for the same price as a weak one.

I agree that you should get it stronger for the same price,
But I like it just as it is :)

    Lilliput Stores in Arbour Hill.

Amazing coffee for under 2 euro.

Obviously it's not in town but it's one of the best cups of coffee I've had in years.

the Bald Barista on Aungier Street is only beaten by La Corte in The Epicurean Food Hall. Amazing coffee in both cases.

La Corte used to have a second cafe upstairs in the Powerscourt Centre but that's gone now, and replaced with a new Italian cafe with very good coffee. Its big advantage is that it's in a nicer, quieter setting than The Bald Barista and La Corte.

Also Buzz in The Bald Barista (he is the bald barista) is a bit much to be dealing with when you just need a coffee fix....

I second all the recommendations for the Epicurean, the Moonstar Turkish place in there does amazing and cheap coffee also but if you are looking for a nicer setting (the scraping of the chairs in the Epicurean breaks my heart, easily annoyed, I know) then there are a few nicer places you could try.

The coffee in Fallon & Byrne on Exchequer St is excellent, all the better to sit downstairs in the wine cellar and sip your brew there.
The Cake Cafe (not sure what the actual name is?) on Camden St is amazing. Homemade cakes and lovely coffee, it's in behind the Daintree paper shop up from the Palace. Enjoy.

Il Valentino on Pearse St/Grand Canal Quay is my favourite. Top notch coffee, good food (if a little too good...).

The service is excellent - if the staff see me crossing the street on a weekday morning they start to make my coffee before I even reach the door.

Should have mentioned Cafe Caligostro (?) in the Italian Quarter. Great cofee and nice place.

-1 for Cafe Di Napoli on Westland Row, work nearby and far prefer the West Coast at the top of the street. Cafe Di Napoli tends to be burned of late and you can feel almost unwelcome in the shop.

I use Il Valentino myself most mornings.class place alright

I think that bothers more people than you think. It really starts to get in on you once you become conscious of it. I don't know how people work there.

+1 on the coffee in the Epicurean and the Bald Barista.

Thanks for the heads up on where The Bald Barista is now. I was on the bus the other day thinking I'd get off for a coffee and ended up thinking it had closed
