    Hi ya
Has anyone out there had any experience of what UTV Broadband calls "non standard delivery" broadband connection? They couldn't guarantee any connection speed when they tested the line and suggested we go for a 1mb connection. Online Eircom line checker said we could have a 3mb connection and UTV are unable to tell us why they can't match it- offered explanation that it could be because Eircom own the line and thats why they could offer a better connection... seems weird to me
Anyone had any experience of this because even the person at UTV couldnt explain it very well
    Thanks

As UTV are resellers for eircom's service, you should be able to get the same speeds with both of them. AFAIK, non standard delivery is when the line should be capable of getting service based on the loop length etc but there's a fault or something like it on the line. An eircom wholesale engineer will investigate and hopefully clear the fault and you should be good to go. The other thing about non standard delivery is that it can take longer than agreed between UTV and eircom for normal connections, so instead of a week or whatever they told you, it could be three or four - and it's not their fault, it's eircoms, UTV can't complain about it either because it's flagged as "non standard".

Thanks very much for your reply. I'll contact Eircom about checking the line and see from there
    All the best

Non standard equals too long. Eircom call it a "may be suitable, subject to confirmation" result. Used to be called the "amber programme" where they increased the limit by 6dB a few times (half a kilometre each) and made the test generally less strict. 2 years after BT in the UK did it:rolleyes:

Eircom can sell 3 mbps alright, but unless the amber line thing is caused by some other issue (rare), the line will connect at 1024/128 even if 3 mbps is being paid for. It's normally a good thing that the other companies would stop any order greater than 1 mbps going through.
