Never mentioned Witness intimidation and we are going a bit off track here.

You didn't need to. The thread is about Ferris visiting 2 thugs who shot a Garda and the case involved intimidation to the point where the charge the DPP brought was manslaughter instead of the preferred one of murder.

So we're judging Ferris' actions here; not your posts.

And he's shown himself to be unworthy of his position.

Sinn Fein wonder why they're a non-entity in the Republic. It's sick stunts like this that ensure that very, very few right-minded, law abiding citizens will vote for them.

They haven't gone away you know.

Yet another timely reminder not to vote SF.

A return to "Community Activists" :pac:.
So back to punishment beatings, kneecappings, and protection rackets eh?

At least Mr Ferris is being consistent.
He's made no secret of his views, his respect for the IRA and what he calls a war.

Thats where most people part company with him.
It's a very cemented mindset that he and other hardline republicans have.

To put yourself in his shoes,he gun ran for the IRA so he obviously believed in what the guns would be used for and throughout the troubles, they were often used for armed robberies to fund the IRA.
He'll have had no problem with that historically.
I'd be surprised if he has an on-going support for that sort of activity.
In fact you can be sure he doesn't.
I'd imagine [and this is also where he parts company with the majority] that he regrets what has happened but feels the need not to go further than regret because well mistakes happen in wars...
That doesn't wash too well when compared to their attitude to other wars mind you but it's as far as he can go in his mindset and unfortunately that exposes hypocrisies.

He's not a stupid man.He knows what he did is not a general vote getter.
He also knows he won't be "honour bound" to repeat this jail collection job for anyone else.
While he is still in the Dáil,this will be pulling down SF's attempts to grow their support beyond it's current base.
    Theres no doubt about that.
But time is a great healer as they say...
Give it a few decades and this episode will be consigned to a dusty book shelf.

In the meantime SF need to decide whether it is easier to grow by at least modifying un popular socialist ideology or to persuade the public that hardline socialism is the way to go.
Human nature tells me if they choose the latter, they are on a ship with no sails.
