Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just wondering if anyone is gonna get this. I think it is around €15 per month. It has around 40 PL games plus SPL, Bundesliga, MLS and the Russian League plus other non-soccer stuff.

I think it is just the one channel (ESPN Classic is free anyways). If it had Serie A, I would probably get it. Someone out there ffs get the rights for Serie A.

was going to get it, but there are only 3 united games in the first batch of matches, so i'll probably leave it. I would like to see the other leagues but i'm already paying a fortune for Sky Sports as it is, along with MUTV so i'm not sur eabout the extra 12 a month. i'll probably give in though :D

Nah, Sky + streaming off the internet will do me for the season.

Yep I'm gonna get it, a channel of soccer and UFC. The perfect channel(some blue movies would be nice too though:P).

We're getting rid of Setanta altogether, and getting in ESPN, despite all the games Setanta Ire cover on Liverpool.

will the free setanta channel (free on NTL/Chorus/UPC) being showing the 3pm games again this season, or will they be on the paid for channels?

As far as i know ya, Setanta Ireland has the 3.00 pm Sat games.

if that is the case (and i think, contractually between UPC and Setanta it has to be) i'll prob give ESPN a miss this season, as I have finally got Setanta sorted at home (i think) so i should get enough football between that and Sky Sports.

Will setanta not be coming out soon with a new pricing structure? Doubt they expect people to be paying the same price now with 80% of the content gone.

I have sky HD and ESPN is going to be shown in HD so i'll defo add espn to my sky sports package and will probably get setanta as well if it comes down to a reasonable price. Although they only show saturday 3pm games and they are the easiest ones to stream so might just do that in the end.

Yeah - Setanta Ireland has all the Premier League games at 3:00PM - it's free I think on Chorus - and apparently going down as far as €14/month on Sky - which is ridiculous.

Nah, Sky + streaming off the internet will do me for the season.
You'd still have to subscribe to ESPN to stream the channel through the Sky website though, no?

    Apparently it's €12 a month, not €15.

he means stream via sopcast and the like.

12euro for Sky Sports subscribers. 15 for those that aren't.

Will likely have them all I reckon. Have sentanta half price until Christmas so will keep them until then.

    Setanta will be 16.99 euro

ESPN would be way better value surely? Do Setanta have more games? Also did ESPN take the UFC? I heard ESPN would be free for the first month as well, clearly not the case :(

I'm probably going to stick with Sky and Setanta in the short term. Head to the pub to watch any Liverpool games EPSN show. But it'll depend on what other content Setanta keep and ESPN get. I enjoy the Magners league and some GAA on Setanta, but if ESPN got some of the big boxing bouts that might tempt me to switch.

ESPN are going to have a HD channel too, it'll be free if you have ESPN and HD subscribtion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

I have Sky but not Setanta so for €12 per month I will be getting ESPN. Fcuk it, otherwise I would be just hitting the pub watching it (not such a bad thing I know). Plus they have a few Monday night games which are great after a rough weekend.

With ESPN having some 13.30 games on a Sunday will Sky still have Super Sunday(13.30 game and 16.00 game)

Definately worth it - and the quality of coverage can't be as bad as Setanta.

Savage, as someone said in another thread they have just added Serie A games - roughly 3 per week. YEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

BTW I didnt mind Setanta's coverage - they were a million times better than Sky where everything is the best ever. They could talk about a League 2 match as if it was better than the World Cup final. Not to mention the million times they say "the greatest league in the world".

Lets hope ESPN dont go the Sky route and have planks on the panel - ala grey-suit Jamie and that wolfman fella.

    €16/month - Setanta - 33 games? **** all else.

€12/month - ESPN - 46 games, and up to 3 Serie A games a week, and Russian Football + more.

    fyp

    anyone ESPN all the way

what are setanta thinking about that rip off price especially during the recession

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

Ya looks like Setanta are not going to last much longer. For anyone with Sky Sports, ESPN is good value @ 12 quid a month. The quality of their PL games are better than Setanta ever had.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,478 ✭✭✭Bubs101

1 and a half UFC PPVs for 12 quid a month is good value enough without the Serie A

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Fúck, if upc don't cut a deal with ESPN I'm gonna have to get Sky in for my Serie A fix.

I'm currently paying 5.99 until October, certainly won't be paying 16.99 after, they will have to offer me a price closer to 5.99 to continue my subscription, I do believe they might be showing CL matches also.

Yep I'm getting Espn. Got rid of Setanta though.

    Magners League rugby
NCAA football, basketball, baseball and lacross
    MLB
    NBA
    NHL
    F1

Think ESPN are getting on top of the PL:
German, Dutch, French, Russian, American, Italian footy
    French Top 14 rugby
    UFC
    AFL
    NRL

and would not be shocked if they got some form of NFL for the new season

Will be very interesting to see how their subscription holds up, I think lots of people got in on the 5.99 deal which brings people up to Sept/Oct, they will do well to hold onto people at 16.99.

They have said that some of them will be on Setanta 1 so you'd need a sub for that. I don't think Setanta have all of the American stuff like the NCAA because they were all on ESPN America which I don't seem to be able to watch anymore on my sky digital
