    cant wait

Just rang into Setanta there, saying what they're offering for the price isn't a good deal - and that we're going to get ESPN in.

So she gave me deal of €10 a month for three months, so I suppose it'll do for now. As soon as the three months are up it's bye-bye. I think I'm getting 3/4 Liverpool games within that period at least, so ain't too bad.

EDIT: Their first game is Man City - Blackurn - Noooooo!

You know the way there are 2 Setanta channels on Sky Digital still alive. Setanta Ireland and Setanta Sports 1. I have Setanta Ireland on NTL and was just wondering will all the 3pm games be on that channel or will they lash a few games on the channel you need to be a setanta subscriber to get?

Nope, they cant as far as i know. It is ILLEGAL to show those 3pm games live in the UK. They have to be on the Ireland-exclusive channel.

During the Celtic game the other day a graphic said all Liverpool and Manchester United games announced so far will be on Setanta Sports 1.

Both channels are exclusive to Ireland. Any Premier League will simply be blocked in Northern Ireland.

Real Madrid vs Toronto later anyone? Pointless friendly, but hey!

Can't believe all the football ESPN are providing, this can't be good for me in my LC year.

Thought just as much. I hate them for it but the most sensible option for them to do.

Can somebody confirm that you get ESPN America within the package?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭koHd

So you can't get ESPN on NTL?

    That's a load of nollysense.

    Yes:

    ESPN (SD and HD)
    ESPN Classic
    ESPN America

Have to say, I'm delighted with the Bundesliga, Serie A, Dutch and Portuguese leagues too (don't know if the lsat two are carrying live games, I'm sure they will)

    And US Soccer too.

ESPN Classic isn't part of the ESPN package funnily enough. That is News & Events.

    watching DC v R.madrid

    alonso is playing ;)

but the screen is 4:3,very strange wonder why that is ?

Must be the maximum resolution FSC offer.

Alonso is having a nightmare. At Liverpool it was Pepe > Defender > Alonso. Real are either keeping it in defense and going wide, or bypassing Xabi altogether.

So at the moment he's just a big bag of £30m standing in to fill the XI. I'd suspect they won't use him to his strenghts next season.

In fairness, @ 30m Alonso has to be the worst signing of the season. How they paid such a crazy amount is beyond me. His assist and goal ratio is average at best - total waste of money.

Robben is a fantastic player and was Madrid's best player last year. Van der Vaart and Sneijder are also better players than Alonso. Ronaldo @ 80m and Kaka @ 55m - fine but Alonso @ 30m is a joke.

Yes you will be able to get ESPN on UPC (Chorus/NTL).
They'll be launching it before the weekend.
They had to wait until they had arranged a deal with Setanta first, as they had a special arangement with them.

They've announced no prices yet, but it will be available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,900 ✭✭✭Eire-Dearg

    Any linkage Karma?

    Good news for UPCers.

It's not officially announced so there's no links TBH.
I just kinda work in the industry.
I was talking to somebody about it the other day.
He works in TV schedualing so had an inside track so to speak.

I rang up UPC to check, as I have them myself, and was told the same as my friend told me.
(Although I think it's fair to say their agents know nothing about it!!!)

I know that UPC had a partnership with Setanta, hence the Setanta Ireland channel, and the cheaper rates than Sky.

Also, when Setanta went tits up, Liberty Global (They're the American company that own UPC) wanted to buy Setanta Ireland to practically make it into UPC Sports 1.

They had to wait to make sure that the Setanta deal wasn't going to go ahead until they entered proper talks with ESPN.

They're also about to launch their HD service, so I'm sure ESPN HD is coming into the talks too.

I signed up for Espn last night. it took three phone calls to sky before I got the correct prices and was able to order. So beware. Not to sound sexist but it wasn't until a spoke to a bloke who obviously watches football until I got the correct information.

For the summer I just get the basic sky variety package.
So the following is my new monthly bill
    Basic variety tv package -€20.50
    For Skysport 1 Only - €20.50
    Espn- €12
thanks to a previous poster I said I wanted the €7 first month discount. He said you have to 'try' online before he could applied it. I assured him I had indeed 'tried' the website....

Last year I had Setanta and I called to cancel the service. They offered to reduce the monthly charge to €5 of r6 months. I continued my subscription.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Karmafaerie

    It'll be broadcasting tomorrow.
    SD and HD.

I've been told (but don't hold me to it) that it's €10 if you have Sky sports or Setanta through UPC.
    And €15.00 if you don't.
