Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lads, if someone was looking to get a new sound system for a venue, something suitable for DJ gigs etc, 200 capacity - where would a good place to be to start looking? He's really on a budget as he thought his current one would do but I had a listen and its nowhere near good enough. Ideally he would like something he can add in addition to his current system. He's had a few guys come in from audio fitout places etc and quote him silly numbers.

We were thinking with the climate we're in there might be some great stuff available second hand - but it might be hard to come by, anyone have any ideas as to where to start looking? (Apart from adverts.ie - already on it)

    Cheers

how much wattage do you need? You could pickup a deltec system from the uk
(2 tops, 2 bins, 1700 w rms for less than £800 and you could add more if needed)
The guys on www.mobiledjforums.com swear by them and a lot of them
use them for dance gigs. I think there are some second hand bins going
cheap there at the moment. Get a cheap amp on ebay/thomann and yer set.

rent it man,try it out and if it works for you buy some of it and continue to rent the rest of it out until you can afford to buy all the pieces.
especially if its a new venture

would be a shame to buy alot of stuff only to find out it doesnt sound as good as you thought

OP, consider a long term lease from a speaker hire company. That way you are not tied in in a major way. Lots of them do this, and it means that if anything goes wrong, you just get the thing replaced.

Also look at buying high end second hand instead of brand new cheap stuff. Brands like JBL, KME, EV, Dynacord are generally considered pretty good.

If he puts a crap system into his venue he'll regret it.

There was a sweet Dynacord P5 on adverts.ie there recently for 4 grand, would have been perfect for the job. I think it's sold though. Other places to look are Gumtree, Buy and Sell, ebay and the old fasioned yellow pages.

You'll get hooked up if you shop around.

Cool thanks. Yeah a rent or lease agreement would be great alright - anyone know any places you can do this in Dublin ?

With Thomann prices and flat rate shipping I'd say its deffo worth a look at least.

If its an install into a venue, then your standard sub and tops on poles will not do unless that system can be heard in ever part of the venue.

Whats the setup/layout of the room? What is the budget? Tops and subs placed in good locations as dictated by acoustics and run in mono will get the best results. A "package" deal from a online shop would be the worse thing to do and buy cheap buy twice. If its done correctly with decent gear it will pay for itself and can be easily sold on when he is finished with it.

DJ's need lots of subs that can give out a good amount thump. Subs need to move air to this so your amps have to be up to the job and they need to have plenty of head room so the music sounds decent when the system is cranked up when the venue is full.

If he goes down the cheap route you'll be back on her with a tread call "So we blew all our subs".

Doing it properly is not cheap, doing it cheap will be a waste of money. There is a middle ground. He should listen to the pro who quoted him crazy money and look at the spec of the gear they suggest and then go and see what alternatives there are.

    try puresound
    www.puresound.ie
most av companies will quote you for free, if they don't you don't want them
all you do is tell them the budget first then chance a bit of a haggle.
Another problem with diy is if it goes up in smoke you end up lookin at yourself.
Djs have a tendency to blow paper bass drivers all over the dance floor, spec the wrong gear and you'll be repairing it all the time.
I know someone said it already up there but (buy cheap buy twice)
