    go to ze generator

    http://www.generatorhostels.com/

its cheap clean and their pub crawl is class and i would recomend you do that the first night you get there so you know where to go back to for the rest of the week

it has no air conditioning and the year we were there was their hottest summer for 50 years or something like that so if you know its going to be hot bring something to help

its not right in the city but its a min walk from the train station (which happens to have an unreal kebab place)

it dosnt have a pool but it has a nice bar and the staff are friendly even if you do smash two full pint glasses in the lift while running from the security man

As central as possible in Berlin. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in.

    Berlin has some good hostels.

This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in. It's like a hotel with a grand piano in the reception area. Really cool, clean and central (Alexanderplatz is a 10 minute walk, and there's a train station nearby).

Also, there's no real central area in Berlin for bars and clubs. They are scattered around the place. Berlin is huge, so get yourself a train map that has both S-bahn and U-bahn on it.

If you're into clubbing, check out Watergate. And if you like it really dark and hardcore, check out Berghein.

I stayed here myself recently, it's very good; good location, price and rooms. No air con though

Haven't been to the generator. Is it like the one in London? I really did not like that one.

I stayed in hte Generator before and its a good laugh alright. Much nicer than the one in London which is dirty and dank. The one in Berlin is pretty clean and the bar is excellent fun.

However last time I stayed in Berlin I stayed in the City Hostel which is just off Unter Den Linden and found it terrific and the best location possible but then again it had only opened hte month before. It was a decent price and immaculately clean but reading reviews of it now on hostelbookers.com it seems to have lost a little of its fresh nature. On a side note though it is next to the North Korean embassy and used to even be the North Korean embassy in Berlin until it was downsized and even now its still owned by Kim Jong Il. So if you feel like supporting a tyrannical despot then there is no better place to stay in the Western World

In berlin I have stayed in Generator, Baxpax kruezburg, Baxpax downtown and Wombats.

Generator, Is good but there is SO many better hostels in berlin. too far from the centre too

Baxpax kruezburg is something different, It is located in a really arty place on berlin and all their rooms are themed. i stayed in the german room which had and actual VW beetle in it which was modified to have a bed in it. class!

Baxpax downtown. Is nice clean, central and Has a lovely rooftop garden. However it closed early and drinks were very expensive.

But Wombats is the best! Brilliant staff. very modern! only opened last year(the have hostels in vienna and munich too) Pitchers of the nicest beer in the world(berliner beer mmmmmmmm) for €5 during happy hour. €7 after that. the bar is on the 7th floor with a massive balcony on which you can see an amazing berlin skyline. its well laid out too, which helps to meet other travellers. I've been back there 4 times. with a group of lads, on my own, with my bird and with my travel buddy. each a different expierence, but each simply amazing!
