Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Georgia 'provoking' Russia

According to Russia Today, Georgia have apparently been trying provoke Russia into another conflict over South Ossetia.

Russia claims that Georgian troops have been shelling S.Ossetia since atleast 29th of July.

This comes a week after a visit by US VP Joe Biden.

President Mikheil Saakashvili is requesting weapons from the US to defend from Russian attacks..

Also, there were reports of the pentagon being 'concerned' that Russian subs were spotted 200 miles off the coast of america, but Russia argues that it's 'business as usual'

Biden, in an address to Georgian parliament :

The vice president said the United States is working closely with Georgia to modernize its military, with a focus on training, planning and organization. But he rejected any military option for re-integrating Abkhazia and South Ossetia -- two breakaway regions recognized as independent by Russia.

"We will not recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states. And we urge, we urge the world not to recognize them as independent states. And we call upon Russia to honor its international commitments clearly specified in the April 12 ceasefire agreement, including withdrawal of all forces to their pre-conflict positions and ultimately out of your territorial area," he said.

"We understand that Georgia aspires to join NATO. We fully support that aspiration and, members of parliament; we will work to continue to help you meet the standards of NATO membership"

France and Germany have objected to Georgia being made part of NATO for obvious reasons, so why are the US so interested in Georgia?

Are the US trying to isolate Russia and make them look like the 'bad guy' internationally?

Is Saakashvili simply a corrupt puppet of the US government?
Could the relationship of US and Georgia drag NATO countries into a war with Russia?

For what purpose? That's what I'd like to know what your opinion is.

Why are the US so close with Georgia?

Why does USA more than anyone in EU want Turkey in the EU?

Guessing by your comment, you believe the US wants to destabalise Europe?
Or what's your answer? I honestly don't know.

Well they had Jupiter missiles in Turkey but they were removed under the agreement America and Russia made during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Georgia would be a handy spot for the ABM system, along with Poland and the Czech Republic. Of course, to the Russians it looks like they're being surrounded!
If Georgia do join NATO, then America and the rest of NATO are obliged to defend them. Again, not good from a Russian point of view.

USA doesn't want conflict in Europe. But they don't want a Strong Europe with clear aim on Foriegn Policy and powerful single policy Economy. That is a threat to their Interests (US Foriegn policy being largely Econmic in Outlook).
