    Hi All,

Wondering if someone with a technical networking/understanding of DSL can help me with this problem.

For the last week or so my ping has increased dramatically in the evenings. No downloads going, no other devices connected. Typically it can be between 150-250.

However during the day I get pings like this

    PING 89.234.66.107 (89.234.66.107): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 89.234.66.107: icmp_seq=0 ttl=59 time=39.8 ms
    64 bytes from 89.234.66.107: icmp_seq=1 ttl=59 time=36.9 ms
    64 bytes from 89.234.66.107: icmp_seq=2 ttl=59 time=39.3 ms
    64 bytes from 89.234.66.107: icmp_seq=3 ttl=59 time=37.8 ms

    --- 89.234.66.107 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max = 36.9/38.4/39.8 ms

UTV advised me that it was a contention issue so I moved to the 7.6 which is much lower ratio. (The pings above are on teh 7.6). However come 7+pm my pings jump again.

I believe it to be some bottleneck that is only being made apparent when more people are on the service. I've escalated to U.TV again about it. but if anyone else has had the same experience with UTV or another BB provider or has an idea I'd appreciate it. During this time download speeds are very respectable. Getting around 650kb-700kb

    Thanks,
    X

Routing congestion? Contention issues even on the lower contention package?

That'd be my guess but by all means keep at them :)

I'd accept contention issues if it had got progressively worse but it went from being perfect to being sh*tty overnight. Also I live in a small village where the majority of my neighbors etc have BT / Eircom or Perlico.

The contention is 12:1 which I wouldn't expect to see a problem in a non-suburban area.

    cheers,
