Yup i've seen a few of them. You appear to be attracted to the skinny musical emo type boy.

    BOY!
Yeah, but my point was I wasn't actually attracted to them because of their looks. One in particular, I had no interest in but after I got to know him I was crrrazy about him and went out with him for a long time. So I was saying that lovely does matter to me and just because a guy isn't hot doesn't mean I'm not gonna like him.

To date, the strongest feelings I have ever had for a girl was for a girl who wasn't "typically attractive". I just found her personality and her whole outlook on life infectious.

The principle still stands! :P In my eyes it can happen, a lot of it comes down to how comfortable one is in their own skin. If you're happy with yourself and can project that then anything is possible.

mad wibbs theory alert(and panda100 and taconnal will be along shortly to rip the ... out of it and me:))

I think women as a group more than men have a wider range about what they find attractive. It makes very good evolutionary sense. In a rapidly changing environment it's pretty much down to women to get as wide a selection of possibly useful characteristics as possible. To take stereotypes, in one envirnonment the slimmer geeky male may be a better bet as he uses less calories and has a better memory, in another environment the huge muscled guy is. So it makes some sense if the ladies have a wider idea of what make attractiveness. They're hedging their bets and if they didn't humanity wouldn't be here today.

Or something. I've been out. Ales have been taken. Assume the worst.:D

Yeah, exactly :D Confidence really can work wonders! You can't expect others to love you until you love yourself and all that!

Yeah, totally. I don't think there was ever a time there wasn't pressure on women (and men!) to look a certain way to attract the opposite sex. I think though that the pressure on women to be skinny or wear whatever comes more so from other women, than it does from men. It could be the same vice versa.
Not so much with men. Or not so much that I've noted it, or its very subtle. I would say women are generally more socially competitive than men are and continue that for longer. Again IMH mostly just in the reproductive sphere.

Among the coolest and most grounded human beings I've ever known women over 50 odd are at the top of the charts. Men at 50 odd in my experience not so much.

Kinda, more a spread of genes that guarantees enough of a variation to tackle any environment.

I'd argue any person will judge someone in everyday life initially solely on looks without actually engaging in conversation with them. Anybody who says otherwise is a blatant liar. I judge girls all the time as to whether or not I find them attractive.

Now if I happen to get chatting with someone I deemed to be unattractive initially she can become a lot more attractive to me depending on what they like to do, on their opinions and attitudes and how well I click with them. Whilst I'm very particular in who I am attracted to initially(dark haired and skinned, certain height and build) I'm not dumb enough to use that as my only means of evaluating a girl. The appearance of my ex-gfs would be testament to that although surprisingly they all seemed to share the same personality traits.

    Where's that? Kildare? :D

Naw it's out there as a general notion and one I would agree with in again general terms. The subtle stuff is where it gets real interesting.

Cause for every superficial guy that wouldnt be interested in a girl unless she looked like Jesicca Alba, theres a woman that wont be interested in a guy unless he earns 100 K a year.

Both men and women are equally capable of being superficial, they are just superficial about different things.

In just the same way as women have to torture themselves to lose weight, and wear the right clothes and make-up and heels and all that crap, us men have to worry about being dominant and confident and successful in order to be attractive to the opposite sex.

As a woman you never have to worry "He'll never be interested in me, Im too shy/Im only a waitress" , all you have to do is look as good as you possibly can. He doesnt give a crap if your not confident or have a crap job.

In short: All women have to do is shave their legs, whereas us men have to shave our whole personality.

Woah, while i agree about physical attractiveness being a biggie for men, i have to disagree about men not caring about confidence.
A confident/independent woman (real confidence, not sh1te confidence) is one of the most attractive traits a woman can have, i'd say.

Confidence in a man is an attractive trait too. Never over confidence though, jeez, what a turn off.

Whats the difference between confidence and over confidence?? You should of made a poll to see if looks are that important!

Confidence is like just being happy with ones self. Over confidence.... Look in a mirror!! Ah no, I'm kidding. Over confidence is, oh, I dunno, hard to describe! It's like when they say too much of a good thing is actually a bad thing!

Yeah, I should! But I don't even think that's what the thread was meant to be about! It wasn't meant to focus on looks, I dunno what I was thinking now!

I do look in a mirror, shiney surface a shocking amount for a guy.

No, you can be happy with yourself as in confident, or you can be unhappy with yourself, not confident! Or you can be OVER confident! I didn't invent the world, don't ask me!

    Never really noticed tbh :)

Are you saying you are a cocky twat but pretend not to be by commenting in a joking manner when you're actually serious?!

No, 78 or whatever is nothing to be proud of, plus you're OT. Make it to a hundred and I might consider it. :)

No I'm not a cocky twat. To me a cocky twat is someone who you just wanna hit when they start talking about how awesome they are.

Nah keep it too much effort

I think it's on topic? I was asking whats confidence(a trait she said is attractive) and whats overconfident? I was interested in seeing what her thoughts on the difference was.

    Ah well *leaves thread alone*

I was just kidding, I don't think you're a cocky twat. And I can't explain the difference between the confident and over confident, you just know it when you see it. Back OT, everyone's a winner. :)

Perhaps most known for his role in 300, you know the "This is Sparta" bloke.

He's also in PS I Love You, and he's Irish in it. Worst. Accent. Ever. I think he watched Darbey O'Gill and the Little People as his sole piece of research.

When I was younger, a friend who I had a humungous crush on (and he knew it), told me that you can't fcuk a personality.

Needless to say, I was gutted as I am the typical gal, great personality and average cuddly looks.

A few years later, crying on my shoulder about his latest break-up, he said he should have asked me out then.

    Hah! Too late bucko.
