Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well that list by which car is pretty damn spot on as far as my Audi A5 is concerned. Numbr 121 of 121. I cannot think of a better way to sum up my experience of the car so far. Its not that its unreliable but just pretty poor.

OP - well, I live in a rural area, well populated by all sorts of SUV's. Two local garages do a lot of work on them, esp as many, as commercials, are DOE'd every year.

Without exception, both put the Disco at the absolute bottom of the pile.

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

The Audi A5 is the least reliable car - worse than any other car for sale at the moment?

That's pretty shocking to me, tbh.

You seem to be a very unhappy owner. What convinced you to buy the car and in what ways have you been disappointed? You could do a lot of potential buyers a favour here by sharing your experiences

In general terms, reliability in my experience is joined at the hip to the owners mechanical sympathy and willingness to adhere to the service regime.

(Renault Laguna excepted - a dog)

One man's reliable chariot is anothers' tale of woe.

    honestjohn is pretty good.

...would that it were that simple..........once upon ago, I'd agree with you. But mechanical sympathy cannot compensate for poor design, poor manufacture, or lack of pre-launch testing.

The A5, we've heard of. I've had Tdci and Mazda RF diesel problems. A friend has just had her 61k mile VVTi Corolla lunch it's engine. All were maintained properly, to the letter. W211 gearboxes and Servotronic brake care not a whit for your sympathy, DMF's on nearly everything - when they're gone, they're gone !

I think it's a generational thing, tbh. Car generation, that is, not the owner's......over complexity/under-tested and unproven is the culprit. The rush to market has exceeded the R & D's ability to deliver in the same timeframe.

Its pretty well documented here already I feel. Dealer also very poor and audi ireland not too interested either until I refused to drive the car.

I would say to any potential A5 buyers, to insist on test drive of their actual car when its ready for collection. Audi wouldnt like this idea but its your right. I certainly will do this the next time I order a new car. Ive driven 5 or 6 1.8T A5s now and they seem to have varying degrees of the type of hangling problems I have. One of them was worse than mine, another was about the same as mine and interestingly was 3 months old & was for sale again at the dealer from a private owner. They said it was financial trouble but who knows? The others were fine and behaved as I would expect a moderately powerful front drive car to behave.

I spoke to a warranty guy at Audi Ireland. When explaining that at about 65 mph & above on anything except motorway smooth road, it became very unstable, the smart answer I got was that I shoudnt be travelling at those speeds except on motorway. He retracted that after I consulted with my solicitor.

Pre facelift Laguna 2 (01-05 ) are the ones that have the reliability issues, though there are plenty that dont.
