The Avon Skin Cream works, but not for long. In my experience it is only as effective as midge repellent with 10% DEET. Repellents with 50% to 75% DEET are effective for a full day, whereas with the Avon cream you need to reapply more every hour in midgy areas.

Here are two links that give practical midge advice:

spray lysterine on you neck and face, around your hat and hands and arms.

For some reason they hate that stuff..

i got a 5 euro net you put over your head, makes you look like a nutter but worth it. you think those electronic bug beepers work?

during the klondike gold rush horses men and women were driven nuts by the mosquitoes....

This was discussed on another site and the deet thing came up. Is that not supposed to be bad for ya or somethin? I can remember somethin about it anyway.

Instead of working off something you heard somewhere why not have a look at the clinical tests in the link I gave, verified independent information.
Then decide if it's bad for you or not, and if it works as an effective repellent, or if the other so called solutions work.

There's a very good reason I use 75% DEET products. I go where other fear ...... and fish for hours unbitten! :-)

No need to be ignorant about it. Not going on something i heard, something i would have seen as it was on another site. I can give you the name of it if you must know and all links were provided. I was on the mobile internet at the time of your reply and your link wouldn load! Sorry for adding a stupid reply that got under your feathers. Excuse pun coolwings

    No problemo!
The key term to notice in midge, mosquito and cleg repellent products is the term "military use". Anything that works in the tropical jungle, will work better in our climate! ;)

Just to add info here about the avon skin so soft range. When the military started ordering crates of it, the troops thought it was feminine and avon changed the name on the bottles supplied to military to avon 'triple s'. True story

Just a word of warning lads, if using any products with DEET in them, the stuff can be lethal to fly leaders and even fly lines, so try to tackle up before putting on the stuff, or wash your hands before setting up your leader.
