Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mondeo odometer (miles v's km)

    Hi all,
I'm looking at some used Mondeo models and I've noticed a few ads with conflicting odometer interpretations:

So... Question1: can the digital odometer in 2004 or 2005 Mondeos be reset to display miles or km as desired??

Question2: If not, then which of the attached advertiser-taken odometer pics might be dodgy...
2004 Mondeo with claimed 110,000 km
2004 Mondeo with claimed 119,000 miles
2005 Mondeo with claimed 140,000 km

Question3: If they are all correct, how can you make sure you're not being fiddled?? [ eg seller says 110K km but it's really miles :-( ] ??

    Cheers all.

The first two appear to be in miles. The third appears to be in kilometres.

You can never be sure you are not being fiddled.

Safest to assume that every car has been clocked and make your buying decision based on actual condition of vehicle and not the perceived condition based on speedo reading. Even a vehicle with a immaculate service/milage record can have recently developed a costly fault which is prompting the sale.

Always get a qualified person to asses the vehicle on your behalf regardless of who you are buying from. It could save you a lot of money and heartache later on.

The first two appear to be in miles. The third appears to be in kilometres. Note the larger text on the first two denoting the speed in MPH. The third tops 240 which I would put money on is kilometres. Both the other Odometres top at 140mph/220kph.
Dual speed on the display are typical enough and the supplie chain to the UK/Ireland was prolly the same. MPH is still order of the day there and has to be the dominant Character to be legally sold in the UK. could be wrong but I believe 2005 is when we switched to KPH on all our signs hence the KPH display on the Odometre.
Can't comment on the actual distance covered by the vehicles but they are to be fair highish for the age of them and it should reflect in the price being asked for them.
I have heards of conversion kits for KPH to MPH etc. Not sure of the mechanics of them on a car, but for any of the bikes I have owned the system were pretty rudimentry. I have have had a speedo cable snap on one bike and had to wait two weeks for it to be replaced. No cable no speed on the dial and no miles clocked until it was sorted. Not sure whether the same is poss on a car.
Well for one thing are you buying from a dealer. You could prolly take it out for a test drive. If it is in kilometres or miles should be clear pretty quickly by the the rotation on the odometre relative to the distance travelled. I am sure you know the difference between 60mph or 60kph if you are behind the wheel.
In saying all of that there are software systems etc for correcting mileage etc. For any inaccuracies or to convert from one system to the next. Not sure what is involved exactly but it relies on the honesty of the operator. Not sure if you can follow up on a cars NCT history like you can with the DVLA tests in the uk, but it might be worth looking into.
