Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi All

Was in the Philips store this afternoon having a chat to a very helpful assistant Ian.

Was showing me the 8404 and 9664 (42").

He mentioned a decent discount for boardsies.

    Few quick questions:

I've found the 8404 on a well known retailer for €1006 so i was wondering what your current deal on that is?

What is the best price you can do the 9664? Might be tempted if the price is right - seems like a nice model

What price to ship to Galway? I could pick it up in the car but im wary of taking it a long trek, at least if its shipped its insured in transit.

    Thanks a lot
    John

    Hi John/Ash

Have you guys got any good deals on blu-ray players at the moment?

I'm very close to ordering the 9664 - been doing a fair bit of reading on it - i think it'll be the one for me. I'll be in touch soon.

    Hi Solyad

You will have your very sexy TV tomorrow.

A few suggestions if I may recommend a few things to look out for.....
Firstly make sure the TV is in the PERSONAL picture setting mode (not VIVID or any of the other option) as this will let you set the TV up independantly for each input - basically you can fine tune each of the inputs seperately for each source. You'll find the settings for you NTL/Sky box wont suit your DVD player or your Blu-Ray player - Thats one of the great things about the upper end Philips TV's you can tweat them to perfection for each source - spend a little time on this and the TV will reward you no end:)

Out of the box the Sharpness is set way to high - wind it down to say 1 or 2 at the most and the contrast is set to max - this can be wound down to 70/80 or lower depending on the viewing room.

Do have a good old play about and if you make a complete mess of the image there is always the factory reset to start again!!

I can guarantee your going to enjoy this TV.

    Cheers
    Ash

Got the Set, this tv is amazing. Spent a very happy evening messing with it.

I jumped to flat screen tvs from crts 3 years ago and its like jumping again.

Im genuinely amazed at how good it is (at SD dvds, never mind HD)

Delighted to give you the business and will be recommended ye to anyone looking.

Oh, (if anyone is wondering) on avforums there are a lot of questions if there is lag with this tv with the xbox 360. There is none, in any mode that I can see or notice.

Thanks for the initial tips Ash. The vivid mode its a bit weird, but theres something about that really works. Cant put my finger on it.

    All the best
    John

    Solyad,

Thanks for the kind message and I agree the reviews of the new 8 and 9 series online are amazing and I feel genuinely deserved this year as Philips really do seem to have pulled their finger out this year and produced some really great sets - we just need them to start making them a bit faster now so we can get our waiting list down a bit!

Vivid mode - mmm you either love it or hate - I don't think it should be the default mode personally but one thing for sure is that the 8 & 9 series really benefit from taking serious time to set them up!

Thanks again and keep on enjoying..
