Thinking about fitting a kitchen in my house

Have all the tools needed and am used to working with wood

How difficult is it to fit a kitchen, anyone know of any online tutorials.

What are the common mistakes people make, and what to look out for when buying the kitchen

    Any other tips ?

Measure ..measure and measure again...I've gone to houses to fit B&Q, cash n carry kitchrens and mostly they give the wrong measurements, not allowing for door frames, rads etc...Most kitchen suppliers will do a cad for you, you'll need to be good at plumbing and electrics too...;)

Check that drawing at home and make sure you won't cover or half cover your electrical sockets.

And remember the other golden rule: measure twice, cut once. Same applies to drilling holes.

    • Don't assume your walls are straight or corners are square, they're probably not
    • Make sure you have enough room behind dishwasher or washing machine for the waste pipe.
    • Fridges need plenty of ventilation to release the heat taken from inside, so make sure you leave an opening at the back of a fridge cabinet to let the heat out.
    • Know where pipes and cables are so you don't hit them.
    • Ask if the taps are for high pressure or low pressure systems. Don't buy high pressure taps if you don't have a high pressure system.
    • if you're fitting an extractor hood which is vented outside, check what route is it going to take, is there an external wall nearby.

Fitting shouldn't be all that difficult, just take your time and double check as you go. You'll need assistance especially when hanging wall units.
