Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    http://gizmodo.com/5334023/attention-portuguese-people-youre-about-to-get-the-fastest-broadband-in-the-world
Portuguese ISP Zon Multimedia will devlier one gigabit of bandwidth to broadband customers come September. One gigabit! So, if you want a truly fast internet connection in 2009, you're better off moving to the Azores than, say, New York City.

This is painful for the vast majority of the world's online population, who live out their lives in a sub-10Mbps ghetto, but doubly so for South Korea, who seemed to have the claim to the first 1Gbps connection all locked up. If it's any consolation, nobody's even claiming they'll be able to hit 1Gbps here.

Of course, there will be disadvantages. 1Gbps connections surely won't come cheap, and seriously, beyond extremely well-seeded torrents, you're going to have trouble finding too many places that are willing to serve you content at over 128 megabytes per second. But still, this hurts.

Don't know what I would ever need with that much speed, but good to have.

Gigabit bandwidth but what's the actual throughput going to be? I guess even with high contention it's going to be very speedy.

i'm sure Watty will be on with a diagram to demonstrate the contention to us shortly, I just hope he uses some good looking chicks for illustration purposes..

if we have this by 2020 here i'll be very surprised...

Surprised? I'd be downright shocked. Considering we can't roll out a minimum of 1mb around the country in its entirety in 2009.

I can already do a lot of torrenting without lagging on counterstrike or anything :)

but its still hard to cap out a 10mbps connection. Youd have to be streaming a lot of shyte all at once.

    ?

no i was just pointing out theres no way or shape in hell that theyd be able to take full advantage of 1gbps. Not with todays model. Just pointing out I cant even use all of 1/100th what the portugese are getting.

Unless you start talking about cloud computing.

Can a hard disk even achieve a 128 megabytes per second throughput? Very unlikely in my opinion; I'm sure your machine would be the bottleneck with a connection like this.
