Hey there. Currently on a buggy sony w910i and thinking of getting a new phone.

    • What features are important to you in a phone? (i.e. camera, gps, FM radio, Stereo Bluetooth)
    • Form factor - i.e. touchscreen, slider, flip phone, etc.
    • Internet - is 3G/mobile internet important, or WiFi/EDGE
    • Operator - have you an operator preference
    • Pre-pay/Bill-pay/SIM-Free - have you a preference for either
    • Price range

    Features:
Need good internets. I use my phone for lots of on the fly random browsing and of course boards.

    Radio is unimportant.

Mp3 player isnt used too much, but is handy now and then for bus trips.

Camera, again, mediocre would do, but handy to have.

Applications would be important too. I want more from my phone.
At the moment im only using google maps, ebuddy chat messenger, opera mobile.

Form: easy enough, im just not a big fan of flip screens.

Internets: as i said, very important. w910i net is grand (or faster if possible), but wifi might be nice.

Operator: im on meteor, but might spring for sim free if needs be. i will be staying on meteor.

Pre-pay, as i said above, staying with meteor.

Price range: from 100 - 250 euros, maybe 300 MAX.

Cheers in advance for any recommendations. :)

My friend in work has the 5800, looks like it has a good bit going for it, but im not sure of it for me. i might ask can i use it a bit and check it out more.

The E63 looks pretty good, ive never seen one irl before.

Nokia e71 is probably the best phone available at the moment, brilliant for the internet and battery life is second to none..it's the best phone you've ever had...
I can't really understand the attraction to the 5800, it's not a nice phone to use, e71 kicks it's ass on the internet..

Agree 100%. Not a fan of the 5800 at all at all. Loving my e71. Best thing I've ever owned.

Its similar size to the e63,and the only problem i have with them is the size.
I was playing around with the 5800 in work and although i'm wary(i dunno why :p) of going full touchscreen, the size of the screen is really attractive.

Anyone know off hand that opera and ebuddy messenger will work on 5800?

Nimbuzz is a much better IM client than eBuddy.

The only thing eBuddy has going for it is that it's java.
Might as well use the symbian based client if you're getting a 5800 or e71.

Tbh, though the screen on the e71 is a lot smaller, it's actually very very sharp. I've converted tv shows to 320x240 and use the phone regularly to watch stuff while out and about. No bother on it.

the E63 *is* pretty good, less than 200e sim free

hmm, you guys have given me lots to think about...
im a little unsure about the screen size, the 5800s monster screen is attractive, but the e71/63s keypad is cool too, although their small size is a little off putting...

    Still thinking about this :p

Im thinking of going sim free, the irish operators firmware locks annoyed me for years.
do ye know if this site is reliable?

My e71 on meteor billpay had no network lock or proprietary firmware on it. Haven't come across anyone else with a locked e71 either.

the e71 has awesome specs, but the keypad is too small, i was worried about the screen size, but its nice to hol and looks good. only problem was keys.

Actually i was messing around with a mates v20.X firmware 5800, and the difference between v20 and v30 is unbelievable. The phone is so much faster with v30, and everything works better. Maybe the browser is a little unstable at times but as for everything else, it's deadly.
