    be careful, irish won't always be a direct word translation to english.
    off the top of my head "beatha" is also life

    I'd say beatha as well, but my knowledge is limited and I'm not a native speaker. Anyway, the Irish for whiskey is 'water of life' 'uisce beatha' (uisce is water). A museum I was at in April did an exhibition on life and death and they also used the word beatha for life.

    The literal English translation of Irish words might not always be what is the true meaning including connotations and such. But as I said, I'm not an expert so I wouldn't know ;)
