Forum Charter [READ BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER] 18/08/2009

Welcome to the Prices/costs forum which is a sub forum of the main Construction & Planning forum. Please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the rules of the Forum.

The following charter should be read in conjunction with the charter for the main Construction & Planning forum.

This forum is intended for discussing and posting all pricing and costings associated with the building industry particularly the private house sector. We would hope that fellow users will find this forum a place to both discuss prices for products and services and also a place where they can share with others the bargains they have found and also exchange recommendations, tips and advice when seeking prices for various products.

One of the main differences between this forum and the main Construction and Planning forum and its sub forums is that business and company names may be posted where it is deemed to be beneficial to other users. Ideally we would prefer to see multiple companies named. For example: A member has sought prices for the supply and fitting of windows & doors in his new house and should therefore post something like the following: Company “A” quoted €xxx, company “B” quoted €yyy and company “C” quoted €zzz.

Discussions and debates will be allowed in relation to the pricing/cost elements only but there shall be no discussion regarding the actual products or services. New threads may be opened in the appropriate forum/sub forums for such further discussions.

The forum shall not be used by anyone for the purpose of personal gain by promoting/advertising their (or others) products or services. This includes user names. Users may in certain circumstances state what their particular trade/profession is but repeated references to this will result in a ban from the forum.

Do not advertise any commercial activity on this site. This will lead to an immediate ban, the duration of which is at the moderator’s discretion. Anyone found promoting a particular business or company by way of shilling will be permanently banned from the forum.

The forum is not to be used by people seeking the services of trades people/professionals. If an estimate/quotation is required or indeed the engagement of a particular person/firm for a specific project then this should be done privately in the person's own time

All genuine queries regarding actual prices/costs can be debated providing legal advice is not being sought. There are other forums available for discussing consumer matters such as “am I getting value for money” or “I got a price for a product but I am unsure if its fit for its intended purpose” etc etc.

General rules of etiquette and good manners are to be respected at all times.

Do not reply to a post by inserting text within the quoted post.

Wood pellet Burners: Any queries on wood pellet boilers other than prices should be posted in the Renewable Energies forum. Any further posting about these in this forum will result in an immediate ban unless it is part of a planning application.

BER and DEAP: All discussion and posts in relation to this should be made in the BER forum.

Please refrain from posting personal abuse, bad language, advertising, spam or anything else that may warrant a ban.

Whilst advice might be sought/given, posters should make every effort to verify advice expressed herein with an independent and knowledgeable third party. The advice and opinions expressed on this forum are not those of Boards.ie Ltd. and the management accepts no responsibility for what is written and posted here.

If you wish to make an advertisement for something like free bricks, tiles etc. please go to www.adverts.ie which is our sister site. All ads are free and you will also find a services section. As threads cannot be moved to this new site like before, any such ads will be locked and moved to the recycle bin. This is a reasonable rule and as an example, the same would happen if you were to advertise a car for sale in the motors section.

Surveys, research etc may not be posted unless previously agreed with the forum mods.

Any defamation found in this forum will result in the thread/post being edited or deleted. Defamation is when something is said about another person (legal, natural or otherwise, that means companies can be defamed) that is untrue and damaging.

If you have any queries then please contact any of the moderators listed at the bottom of the forum page.
