Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Finally, Atlast..I'm planning to go for nikon D60 after so many research..! planned to spend some more money on lens..!
I'm stuck between tamron lens and nikon lens??
As in tamron lens has both the macro shot and the zoom option..!??!
And in Nikon 55-200mm zoom option (bit cheaper)
These are the rated according to Jessops.!
So with Nikon D60 + tamron it's totally £539 (bundle offer)
    With nikon D60 +nikon 55-200mm (silver color) is £379+79=£458
So just help me to find out the better one..!
    regards

remember if you get a d60, you are stuck with autofocusing lenses which are in the minority if you plan getting more lenses in the future.

This gets said every time. Each time it is also rebuffed.

There are loads of lenses to suit the D40/60/5000

I often think Nikon shot themselves in the foot with the D40/D60. Not from the point of view of availability of lenses (of which there are many) or the capability of the cameras, but solely because it encouraged this sort of un-informed verbiage being spewed all over forums, potentially discouraging the very people the d40/d60 are the target market for.

Okay - the motor issue aside (I own a D40 - the predecessor of the D60)

    Let's answer your actual questions:
Is the 55-200 the VR version or not?
What is the tamron lens being offered?

If it's the VR lens then I would go for that one (though I suspect the silver one is the older non-VR lens that optically is not as good as the newer one).

It'd be a toss up between the Tamron/Nikon 55-200... though you may find that Nikons are easily to resell if you ever want to switch to other lenses.

    Hope this helps.

I'm also looking for sigma and tamron lens..! since i'm new to all these..! i'm just looking for reviews regarding tamron and sigma lens..! and few sigma lens are bit cheap as well..!:P

I see the 55-200 mm VR is around 229...that may be out of your price range but it is a very good lens (will you be travelling to the US anytime soon... I believe it costs around 150 euro there).

What tamron lens are you looking at? I have used Sigma lenses before and found them to be nice (depending on the price you pay of course!) And Sigma have a cheap and cheerful 70-300 I believe (the quality isn't pro levels but it's around 140ish?) It does "macro" and has a longer reach... you probably would want a better lens as you grow more proficient but I've heard that working within the limits of the lens you can get great images too.

That sounds like the best plan - unless you know exactly what you want to shoot (which is probably less likely as you just start off). This way you can add lenses as you find yourself reaching the limits of your current lens. (Macro, wide, prime, telephoto, low-light, fisheye, etc etc.) It is all quite daunting in the beginning!

Just to add, the lens that comes with the D60 is actually a good all round lens. It's not excellent at any job, but pretty good at most! For example,

    - it's ok at macros. Nothing compared to a macro lens but will give you a good feel for macro shots as a beginner.

    - has a small bit of zoom for you to play with (18 - 55).

    - Can get up to 3.5 aperture at 18 mm (5.6 at 55). So ok in most light situations (obviously not comparable to the something like a 35mm prime with a 1.8 aperture ability)

I might be going a little heavy on info here, but just wanted to give you an idea of what that lens is like. It's very versatile, I still use it myself when I'm just out and about shooting random bits and pieces. After you get used of this, and the camera, you start to figure out which lens you'd like to go for next.

Yes I'd second that - the 18-55 is very good (within limits).

And at F8 at 35mm it will match the resolving power of the uber expensive 17-55 f2.8 at 35mm F8.

So if you want optimal sharpness you won't get much better (at 35mm/F8).

I have found that I haven't used my 18-55mm much anymore in the last few months (I seem to switch between the 10-20mm Sigma, the 50mm F2 Nikkor-H, and the 55-200mm VR Nikkor).

But yeah, 18mm is kinda wide, 55mm is a short telephoto - it's the basic useful lens to have until you specialise.

I have the 55 - 200 mm VR Nikkor lens on my D40 and I would recommend getting the VR version - I shoot mostly handheld (the OH just about tolerates stopping every 5 mins for photos, he deffo would not tolerate a tripod) - so the VR is essential.

It's a good lens - it can be a little slow to autofocus - but manual focusing works fine. Ask to try it out in the shop before you buy.
