A woman rang me and found a little dog on saturday. She will be bringing him to the dog pound later in the week. She won't give him to the animal welfare and seems to think the dog pound is the best place to bring him if the owner is looking for him.

She said the man in the dog pound will keep him for 5 days and then she can claim him if the owner don't claim him. She also said the man in the dog pound has 100 people on a waiting list looking for dogs.

Dunno if this is a load of bull or true.

The animal welfare centre always checks the pound to see if owners have come looking for the animals they have, they also check the animals for chips and keep the animals alive until they can get new owners for them.

As for the dog pound, yes they will keep the dog for five days and the woman can keep it after that, but if she decides not to, most likely the dog will be dead within another two days.

They do have a list of people looking for dogs, but those people do not take any dog, they usually are looking for a set size or breed, which means all the rest get put down, and it is a very big number each year.

The Animal welfare centre is always the better choice as it gives the animal a temporary home for as long as it takes to find a new owner, plus there is great care and time given to each animal, plus the proper medication and food, plus things like walks and playtoys, and lots of human contact and company.
